Personal Essay: Why Football Is Important To Me
I was about to enter the stadium, as I walked through the gate, I was preparing for the heckling and and all the “kind” comments that would come my way. I knew what to prepare because this wasn’t my first rodeo. This past year was my 4th Broncos-Chiefs game at Arrowhead, each game more exciting than the last. I also knew what to expect from Chiefs fan that sit around me. Like most people, the Chiefs fans are competitive and just let their competitive side take over when the game starts. I don't necessarily mind the harassment that I get from the opposing fans because I know that in the end, it’s all fun and games. Football has always meant a lot to me. Even though I haven’t ever played organized football, it interests me because of the of sudden momentum shifts and the competitiveness. I’m a big …show more content…
My parents watch the games with me most of the time when they have nothing to do. I think we kind bond while watching and discussing what’s happening in the game. I always like to have some company in the room while I watch the games so I have someone to talk to during commercials and halftime. My parents are also the ones who take me to most of the games. Sometimes I gather a few a friends and get them to go to the game with me. Even though I like to be in locked in during games, I never mind the extra company of someone to talk football with. As the game was winding down, the Chiefs had the game in bag and the most of backups were in the game. With two minutes left in the game, we decided to leave and we headed out of and as we were leaving, all my friends were teasing me about how the Broncos lost and how they weren’t going to the playoffs. As we got in the car, I wasn’t too sad, but instead I was looking forward to the next game because I knew that it would be

Although I’ve grown up knowing this rivalry was a big deal amongst my family, I never fully understood it’s magnitude until I witnessed it with my own eyes. This rivalry tends to bring out the crazy side of more people than any other I’ve witnessed! Even getting players involved in the antics, I can remember in 2005, the first time the Vikings and Packers met in the playoffs, with a Vikings win, Randy Moss showed Packer fans his good side, mooning Lambeau Field. Then there was the first time I attended an NFL game, October 2011 and fittingly it was none other than a Vikings vs. Packers game. Before even arriving at the stadium I began to see the excitement of all the people just riding the train into downtown. Vikings fans had their entire bodies painted in purple and gold, and wore giant fuzzy hats with huge…

We got to Charlotte, parked, took a good look at each other faces full of eagerness and off we ventured into the private doors to the stadium seats. I remember walking out of the tunnel leading to our seats and the first thing I noticed, to my surprise, was a plethora of green and yellow. Of course there was more black and blue, but I don’t think either one of us expected that many Packer fans. I looked down at the perfect view I had in front of me. The bright green rectangle of fresh turf and huge screens on each side of the field to catch every minute detail amazed me. We were right in the middle of the field and far enough back to watch as each play unfolded. Being so anxious, we arrived 45 minutes before kick-off leaving us with nothing to do but go grab something to eat. We stepped up to the counter to take in the huge sign with a list of foods. I smelled popcorn and although tempting, I knew exactly what I wanted. “What are you getting?” Nick’s voice interrupted my thoughts of food. “The only thing I ever eat, pizza” I replied back truthfully. He bought my pizza and himself a huge double cheeseburger. After inhaling our food (my mother says we eat too quick), The Packers ran out unto the field for warm-ups. Nick and I both cheered and screamed while dirty looks came our direction from Panther fans. Nick laughed at me for immediately taking my phone out and snapping a million pictures but deep down inside I knew he was glad I was doing it so he wouldn’t have…

It was a chilly Thursday night at Arrowhead Stadium and the Kansas City Chiefs were playing the San Diego Chargers. The air smelled of hot dogs and sweat. My grandpa and I were sitting nine rows back on the 50 yard line, Chiefs’ side. There were punters, kickers, running backs, and wide receivers of both teams warming up on the field, and with kickoff nearing, my grandpa and I started getting anxious. With me being younger, I had just gotten done contemplating on whether or not to go to the game, or to go trick-or-treating. Although I missed out on Halloween, I will be forever thankful that I was able to attend the most exciting game I have ever been to.…

After we got to the city, we spended some time going around it and looking at some other things in the city. Next morning we got up, then got on the tram to the game, it was a 30 minute wait, but it was so worth it because I got to see the houses, how they build them there, the parks, this long and big river right beside the stadium. We finally got there, but we couldn’t go inside because the NFL is not letting people inside with normal bags, we hid the bag inside a bush then we got to go inside the stadium. They played the Jets and I got to see a lot the Steelers players like Antonio Brown, Big Ben. I got to eat a hot dog, popcorn, some other candies. But it was so good, but so much money to get food there. My seats were on the 50 yard line and the weather was sunny, but cool. But the most important time was spending time with…

In my neighborhood, one can always find a group of people playing football in the park or on the streets. The majority of the children preferred football to other sports. There are over seven billion people on this Earth, so what is it that makes me so different? I wear Nike, I drive a car, I play video games, I have chores, and could be considered a pretty normal person. I love, I laugh, I get angry, and I have emotions just like every other human being. The one thing I heavily identify with is football. For as long as I can remember I’ve played ball, and made some great friends along the way. The picture in the top left is a great representation of this. Football has taught me lessons of leadership, perseverance, toughness, how to deal with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. (Bottom left: aftermath of beating Staley) Above all else, the best thing it has taught me was loyalty. Not only loyalty to a cause, but loyalty to my brothers, and ultimately my family. Football has created a foundation for my character, and without it I am certain I would not be the same person I am today.…

It all started at ninth street with some friends of mine John and I started recruiting some people to come play football with us. I honestly didn’t know I had a pretty decent arm. I originally was going to start practicing to play wide receiver instead of quarterback. At the time Odell Beckham Jr. ( wide receiver for the New York Giants ) was extremely explosive and dynamic on offense. Seeing him blow up on offense made me want to try out for wide receiver. But somehow John convinced me to play quarterback.…

It was a very pleasant evening and I was at soccer practice at the South Barrington turf soccer fields. I loved to play soccer and I took it really seriously. Everything I do I go all out. There was no such thing as a second gear for me, I would always go 110 percent. When I was on the field, I could be looked at as a violent person and I would constantly get carded for rough play. During some of our matches I struck so much fear in my opponents they were afraid to guard me.…

“Cameron, you can’t play football you’ll die,” My mother told me in her usual serious tone, I could always count on my mom to keep it 100% reality even though I hated it. I wanted to play football so bad for three years I've literally had dreams of me playing defensive back, my wishful position, and being able to play with my emotions and do very well. I stopped pursuing football even though deep down I was still set on football.…

It was a Friday night in mid August 1991. I was a noseguard and middle linebacker on defense, depending on the play. I also played right guard on the offensive line. This is the story of a night that could of well ended any hope of being an athlete, on any level, from this point on. I will be telling the story from the defensive side of the ball, due to that is where I was playing when I had five vertebrae, slightly, separated.…
