Positive Relationships With Young Children
Building a positive relationship with each of the young children in your care is an essential task of good teaching. Positive relationships allow children to feel that they are cared and loved. When a child is shown love and support, they began to trust their caregiver and their relationship grows. I feel it is very important for a child to be shown love not only does it make them feel good about themselves but it also helps them when they come to school. When a child is left in your care for the first time that child has no idea who you are and I feel even at this stage it is important for them to get the feeling from you that they are alright with you. I believe that children are able to pick up on your feelings and this lets them know if they should be scared or not. All children grow and thrive on close and dependable relationships. They thrive on relationships that show them that they are loved and relationships that show them their caregiver is responsive to their needs. A child needs to show that your relationship with them is something that is going to be the same every day and nothing will change the love you have for them. I feel it is very important that you as the caregiver invest time and attention with each of the children in your care. As you help build positive relationships with the children in your care you will see it in the way their behavior changes. A child that acts out all the time, is just showing you that they need a person to show them love and attention when that child is shown that kind of attention you will see that their behavior changes.     If a child feels emotionally secure they are more likely to participate in play and learning activities unlike a child that sits and cries for their mummy, I would try and bring the child into activities that I know that they enjoy. For example a child in my room was upset and wanted their mummy, I went over to the child and asked her “would you like to play with the sand.” The child was happy to as it is her favourite activity.
