Pros And Cons Of Governor Kasich
After coding all the candidates of the Republican National Debate, Governor Kasich stood out because his number of acclaims varied greatly from the number of times he attacked and defended himself during the debates. This is most likely due to the fact that his standing was last amongst all the candidates taking part in the debate. Because he held the lowest standing amongst all the candidates, many of the candidates did not bother to attack him so he did not need to defend himself as often as the others. He did not attack his opponents because his focus needed to be in bringing himself up in the ranks as opposed to just bringing the others down. According to Benoit's Functional Theory, this is because attacks can often times create an undesirable impression that the candidate is reactive rather than proactive (Glantz, 277, 2013). In order for Kasich to move up in the polls, he needs to present himself in the most desirable way possible. By sticking to mostly acclaims, Kasich highlights all his positive attributes while the other candidates display …show more content…
Rather than taking the opportunity to outwardly attack Senator Cruz Kasich highlights his own achievements by stating,
“there is a way to get to cutting off the funding for Planned Parenthood. I was in the Congress for 18 years, balanced the budget, cut taxes, got it done. Changed welfare, went around the president to get welfare reform done.”.
By doing this he directs the audience's attention to the fact that he experienced situations like this before and managed to successfully find a solution to a similar issue without the need to shut the government down. This simultaneously displays his superiority over Cruz and demonstrates the value of his past experience in dealing with such issues without the need to outwardly attack

Many opinions have been thrown around lately on whether or not Senator Orrin Hatch should seek an eighth term in the Senate. As a Utah millennial, I would also like to voice my opinion. After 40 years in office, Senator Hatch has lost sight of his responsibility of a U.S. Senator: represent his constituents. Having held his position for longer than millennials have been alive, Senator Hatch is not prioritizing and representing the issues that are of greatest concern to the millennial generation -- Utah’s largest age demographic. It is time that we have a representative in the U.S. Senate who will represent our generation and our interests.…

John Ashcroft sees two broad areas of civil liberties as particular weaknesses waiting to be exploited by terrorists, free press and due process rights. He described a seized al Qaeda training manual where "terrorists are told how to use America's freedom as a weapon against us. They are instructed to use the benefits of a free press, newspapers, magazines and broadcasts, to stalk and kill their victims. They are instructed to exploit our judicial process for the success of their operations" (U.S. Senate 2001). The logic is clear: to foil the terrorist plot, the administration must enact antiterrorism measures that ensure greater governmental control of information, fewer procedural protections for people linked to terrorism (as either suspects or material witnesses), and enhanced government surveillance.…

One of the most important things that some candidates don’t have is experience. It takes great experience to become an exceptional leader and this is perhaps one of Kasich’s biggest assets. One example is his experience as a member of The House of Representatives for 18 years from 1983 to 2001, while there he was a member of the Armed Services Committee and chairman of the House Budget Committee. During his time there he helped support the Balanced Budget Act in 1997. Another example of his experience is that he has been elected governor of Ohio twice. In 2010 John Kasich was elected governor of Ohio, during his time there he helped balance budgets and bring uninsured rates down.…
