When the guests came to our class it opened to my eyes to see how many people identify with different genders and identities. Prior to this class and the guest speakers, it is easy to think that gender is only spilt into two genders or identity. It is also frightening to see how these people are treated because they do not fit into the cookie cutter shapes of gender and identity. Gender is more complex than I thought it to be.…

First, I describe my gender identity as a female, because I was born a female, and have no problem being who God created me to be. I love being a woman and do not see myself as being masculine or feminine. I am me, with my personalilty. If I had to pick a gender identity based on the textbook my gender identity would be androgynous. It is sad that if a child or adults has the personality traits such as ambitious, competitive, and self-sufficient they're categorized as being masculine. This way of thinking is a put down to females who are considered as being feminine; just because you are a female does not mean you should not or can not be ambitious, competitive, and self-sufficient. The opposite is also true; you can be a male, be affectionate,…

Gender dysphoria, formerly known as gender identity disorder (GID), is the formal diagnosis used by psychologists and physicians to describe persons who experience significant dysphoria (discontent) with the sex they were assigned at birth and/or the gender roles associated with that sex. It describes the symptoms related to transsexualism, as well as less extreme manifestations. Affected individuals are commonly referred to as "transgender". Though no recent research has been conducted, the prevalence of gender dysphoria is estimated to be approximately 1 in 30,000, though some researchers suggest that the prevalence is actually significantly higher than this.[1][2] Similarly, little research has been done regarding sex ratios of gender dysphoria, but previous research indicates that people assigned male at birth are three times more likely than those assigned female at birth to be transsexual.[1]…
