Reflective Account On Service Experience
I participated in this service activity at Villa Dalmacia on 12 Gorham Way, Spear-wood WA. This organisation assists and cares for the aged care and those who cannot assist themselves. I started on the to the 14th of April and did four more days in the weeks that followed. When visiting Villa Dalmacia I mainly helped in the dementia ward, helping with the therapy games. I also; helped with bingo, bocci, clean cupboards, transport patients and serve morning tea. I really enjoyed doing a variety of jobs as I got to experience many different roles in the nursing home and meet many of the elderly, staff and visitors.

When starting my service activity, my personal aims were to learn from and participate in new and different experiences. To participate in activities that were out of my comfort zone and to embrace everything I encountered. My aim was to learn new life skills and

I value and love my family and friends, which surround me and I have learnt not to take simple things in life for granted, such as being able to walk or use the toilet without assistance. Also, I value just simple acts of kindness and understand the importance of it. An example includes; a smile, a simple conversation or even just appreciating someones presence. These acts can really impact someone’s day in a positive way and after completing my service I have gained an appreciation for the things I have and life. An appreciation for my loving family and friends who care and look after me and for everything I have and everything I am able to do. I feel more inclined to participate in not only service activities, but helping in small ways as well. I believe that there are so many advantages and not any disadvantages of contributing to our society. We were all created to help one another and participate in work for others and through service, you are helping those who are in need and also learning more about ones

I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…

Service is one of the things I love to do because I love helping people and volunteering. I volunteer every Sunday for four hours at the Queen of Vietnamese Martyrs Parish where I help kids to learn more about God and at the same time gain spiritual guidance. I help plan and coordinate activities and events for the kids to make their learning as fun as possible as well as making them more enthusiastic to go to Sunday school. I enjoy volunteering because it helps me become more diverse than what I already am and to meet new people.…

I volunteer to give back to a community that has given me so much. The opportunities I have received throughout my life has given me motivation to be involved in my community. I volunteer in my community whenever I get the opportunity. For example, I helped students get to school safely and I helped out around the school. I volunteered at the public library to help younger children. I now see it is hard work to get children focused and help them not make a big mess, but I enjoyed helping them in any way I can. Volunteering at the public library also taught me about patience. Not everything went exactly how I planned it out, but at the end it still worked out. My time at the library also taught me about effort.…

The assignment is intended to discuss a case I worked on whilst on my final placement and use an analytic stance to discuss the interaction and interventions used with the service user. In order to maintain confidentiality and anonymity of the service users in this case study I will be using pseudonyms for all people involved and mentioned in relation to this case. The assignment will demonstrate professional judgement, accountability of a social worker and the statutory requirements of protection and intervention when working with vulnerable adults. The case study will focus on my work with Sarah throughout my time on placement and assess my principal interventions as well as locating my work within the wider discourses around risk deploying both recovery and exchange models. It will also highlight the strengths and limitations within the process of recovery. Within this case study I will aim to describe and analyse the practice, theories and values that have emerged by carrying out this piece of work. The assignment will critically evaluate my practice with specific reference to the social work skills used. By reflecting on my practice I hope to demonstrate how I have considered issues such as power imbalances and social injustice and how this consideration has assisted me to work in an anti-oppressive, non-judgemental way with the service user involved. With reference to this particular case study I will also demonstrate to the reader the power imbalance that existed between the professionals in terms of their approach. This was clearly evident in relation to the social model approach versus the medical model approach. Drawing on my observation and the experience of working within an inter-professional team I will provide critical appraisal of the issues and barriers that existed. I will also compare, contrast and evaluate the medical and social model of mental health and mental disorder by referring to appropriate literature and…

When I was younger, I participated in Girl Scouts where we volunteered in food pantries, senior centers, hospitals, animal shelters and charities for the less fortunate. We also participated in service projects such as making cards for veterans, making blankets for hospitals and the homeless, and made care packages for veterans and the hurricane victims. Volunteering is important to me because I had an aunt that unfortunately died of cancer and I feel that no one should have to go through the pain and suffering that she did.…

As long as I can remember service to others was always encouraged by my family and teachers. For example, I helped teachers with the intent of lightening their load of work so they can be able to go home earlier. Things like this make me proud because I am able to help others, and to bring a smile to their faces. My excuse to avoid community service was that I always thought that school was all about homework and getting good grades to be on the top 20 of your class. Truth is I have always overlooked this people thinking they were being lazy for not working, but through this community service I learned that each and everyone around the world is fighting their own battles and we all deal with them the best way we can. I am proud of myself because I went to that community service and learned about this people who I had always stereotyped by their actions, community service has encouraged me to actively listen and learn from others, to walk alongside my neighborhood and to build new…

I started my shift at 7:15 am. My work clothes are comfortable and unrestrictive; my footwear is flat, sensible and offers protection to my feet and ankles. When I arrive to the service user’s home, I knock on the door and wait to be let in either by one of the service user’s or by a work colleague. Once inside I greet the service user, if they are awake. I then head to the sleep in room, to start verbal handover with my work colleague. After the 15 minute handover, I then check and sign the handover sheet. Check the on call rota, should there be an incident or or accident. Also check the communication book and also check any money and medication, then checking the activity planner. Once the service user wakes, we say hello to each other, and chat for a short period. I encourage them to start their personal care. After, I ask them if they need any support with getting dressed and preparing breakast. The time is now 8:00 so I administrer the morning medication. I always wash my hands before handling food or medication and after assisting with any personal care. After the service user has had their breakfast. I support them with the washing up. I will then encourage the service user to clean their property. I will then support the indiviual in safely cleaning, all ares with correct products. After this I consult with the service user, about their activity plan for the day, if the service user decided to go into town. I ask them how they would prefer to travel, by bus or by personal car.…

On Friday the 8th of April, I participated in windsurfing and paddleboarding on Lake Pupuke. I demonstrated Tolerance as my responsible behaviour. This affected my physical safety because I didn't jump ahead of anyone or rush and I took my time so that I would be more safe and listened to the instructions despite that it was repeated many times. I also waited for those who weren't as confident and let them take their time and waited for them to be done so that everyone was safe and I knew that they would be safe.…

When I started my work placement at my setting I was working with my members of staff and manager who told me how to monitor children when they eat and which child cannot eat certain food because of their religion or culture. Before I started to give out the food for the children I had to read the food policies and procedures to know how to serve the food and drink for the children. At my placement I learnt how to monitor the children when they ate and how much they ate, and also about their allergies. I had to monitor how much the children drink and I had to make sure that they drink enough water or milk.…

    Human Service Reflection

Starting from the history of the human service profession, I learned in the beginning of the course that the human service profession was formed from religious traditions, which are the earliest foundation for the profession. The religious backgrounds involved were Judaism, Islam and Christianity. The most important thing about the field of human service due to my participation in class is you have to be a dedicated worker in order to pursue the job, I learned that the individuals would visit peoples houses go to their neighborhood to have meetings about what has been going on with them and although the pay is not phenomenal the feeling of knowing you helped or changed someone’s life makes it all worth it. Next is the importance of advocacy. Advocacy is something I knew about due to having to advocate for myself or my grade during high school so it was something…
