Roadside Assistance Plan
Television commercials all hope to achieve one purpose: to make money. They achieve this by strategically using persuasive techniques that influence your thoughts and behaviours. The ads include different forms of images, sounds, music and dialogue to help you make the decision to invest in this product. The advertisement in question uses these techniques to appeal to people that may be in need of a roadside assistance plan, or if the ad is that persuasive, to convince people to switch plans.

The television commercial in question is selling a roadside assistance plan. The advertisement presents an ominous mood because the ad is trying to make you worry about a situation that probably won’t happen to you- especially if you buy into this plan.

“The male voice now asks in a tone of warning: ‘Are you sure you have the best roadside assistance plan?’ The camera continues to pan back and you see a man in a suit walking along the road toward a featureless horizon. The voice concludes, ‘Call Vigilant Systems for a free estimate’”. Because the actor is wearing a suit, this connects to the audience because it gives him credibility by looking sharp and knowledgeable. Because he is walking off into the sunset it makes him seem like he’s happy with life and as if he could really have the best roadside assistance plan. The ad is also trying to persuade you by providing you a free service to reel you in, then, once you’re sold on it, you will eventually have to invest money for this service if you buy into their roadside assistance plan.

Overall, this television commercial uses the aspects of images, sound, music and dialogue to try and persuade the viewer to buy the product, roadside assistance plan. Because media constructs its own reality, by using a woman stranded in the desert, the image now makes you worried. Therefore, this has now put the idea in your head that this could happen to you if you don't buy this product. In order to be a knowledgeable consumer, one must be familiar with media literacy so that they can analyse and evaluate commercials and not be fooled into spending all their hard earned

A pathos appeal is clearly being used in this commercial. It starts with a family being concerned about the broken truck and ends with the father doing whatever it takes to repair it. There are emotional pulls when they show the father finding a picture of his father and him as a little boy standing in front…

As the ad opens, an attractive white woman in business attire begins by saying, “There 's a storm gathering.” In the background you can see ominous clouds swirling mightily behind her. The music is of an ominous nature, implying a dangerous situation. The camera then cuts to a wider angle, showing a mix of people standing in a desert with the same clouds behind them. It is worth noting at this point that California has deserts, and the most famous one of them to the locals is known as 'Death Valley '. There…

The commercial uses the element of ethos to appeal to authority. The commercial does this by using a physically attractive male who immediately demands your attention at the beginning of the commercial by commanding “look at me; now look at your man, now back at me”. This immediately builds up a sense of respect and authority from the speaker, and helps build up the credibility of the commercial.…

The commercial follows a man, that slowly amassed a following of those that need help. The way I view the commercial, is the man isn’t being followed by an actual group of people but is being haunted by the thoughts of those in need. The commercial relies heavily on pathos, ethos, and logos; the use of melancholy music sets the tone of the whole commercial. Putting all this together, allows the viewer to realize what a difference one person can make if they see someone in need of help. This commercial was made to show the various issues in the world.…

Today, advertising is as much a part of our lives as breathing. Whether we’re driving, listening to the radio, or watching T.V we are constantly being bombarded by thousands of companies telling us why we should buy their products or services. Some advertisements prove to be effective, while others can be easily dismissed. One very popular industry in advertisement is auto insurance. Every year companies like Geico, State Farm, and All State invest millions of dollars, hoping to convince audiences that their service is better than their competitors. Because auto insurance is a requirement for every single individual who owns a vehicle it is a very competitive market where various ad campaigns can be found. The largest insurance company after State Farm, Allstate was founded in 1931. Allstate produced commercials called “Mayhem” with American actor Dean Winters. These commercials are short and presented in a humorous manner. At the same time, these commercials show different, dangerous car accident situations that can happen everywhere and to everyone. This Allstate GPS commercial clearly demonstrates the fact that nobody is protected from unpredictable situations, and the rhetorical device most strongly used is the pathos of humor and fear.…

I found this advertisement to be very persuasive, even though I don't buy General Motors products. I found myself wanting an old, reliable truck, a truck I could depend on, a truck once owned by my dad. In reviewing this video several times, I find the execution to be spot on. If I were to change anything, it would have been the weather. I think an overcast day, with a light rain would have brought another layer to the emotion, especially at the end, when the family leaves the shop on foot. If it was raining, and the family were under an umbrella, it would have emphasized their commitment to fixing the truck, no matter how they might be…

All commercials appeal to a person using at least one of three ways: logos, pathos and ethos. When I think of an ad that displays pathos, I think of the disheartening commercial for the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). It is an advertisement that is on TV often whose purpose is getting its audience to support its cause through donations. Because the video shows such resilient emotional appeal, it more effectively targets women who tend to be more susceptible to sentimental propaganda than men. The video is saying that many animals have been helped, but more has to be done. There are still animals out there in need of being rescued from their abusive homes. More donations are needed. The…

This advertisement is incredibly persuasive due to the extended use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. The goal of the advertisement is to show you exactly what could happen when distracted driving. From the very beginning of the advertisement to the little boys’ sneaker lying in the road, we are shown the reality of the situation and our emotions are heightened. The advertisement captures our attention and keeps us holding on to the very end. It forces us to think about our actions as well as others actions around us. We are left very wretched and distraught after watching the entire…

Have you ever been watching an intense part of a show, where the main character struggled greatly to catch up with the bad guy and you, the viewer are anticipating something big to happen? Your stomach starts to twist, you start sweating a bit, you begin biting your nails as anxiety floods in and then out of nowhere a Tide Ad pops up and ruins the mood and the intensity of the movie. Yep, it happened countless times to me and other millions of people. However, it hasn't always been this way. As in Walker-Smith words "we've gone from being exposed to about 500 ads a day back in the 1970's to as many as 5,000 a day today.…

This ad is implying that they want the audience to come a little closer, and get hit by the subway, thus giving them business, considering they are a funeral home. The intentions of all advertisements are to catch the audience’s attention and remain memorable. This billboard definitely catches the audience’s attention and leaves it impossible to forget. This advertisement is obviously making a joke or finding sarcastic humor in this situation. It will leave an impression, whether being the impression the funeral home is wanting, or a far more negative impression. The reader or bypasser will remember the name of this company until the day they die. This ad will appeal to the people who…
