Most runners tend to have self-discipline when it comes to anything dealing with health. They know the food they consume will play a role in how healthy and strong their bodies are. The more they run and decide to eat nutrients, the stronger their body will become. Also, maintaining a healthy weight will keep the internal organs healthy and prevent osteoporosis. Running encourages a person to be more aware of their body. For example, ever since I have become a runner, I have been staying hydrated, eating well, and trying to get enough sleep. I am able to look back at day one of my running journey and see the improvements my body has gained. I can look back at my weightlifting records and see how the numbers increased. When I first started running, I could not do a proper bodyweight squat; five years later and I am squatting with over 150 pounds on my back. In addition to gaining muscle and strength, running improves people’s lung capacity. Runners’ lungs tend to be able to hold more oxygen, which benefits them in everyday tasks as well as in running. They are able to complete more without getting winded as quickly. I remember being in sixth grade, a not-so-pleasant time of my life, and being exhausted just from running a lap around the gym or climbing a flight of stairs. I started the sport of running at the end of my eighth grade year and now I can run several miles before I am exhausted. The more immune a person becomes with running, the easier it will be to run.
