Self driving cars are a new invention that are supposed to make driving easier and allow drivers to do other things while driving because of the “autopilot” feature. Self driving cars need more development before they are introduced into the main roads because drivers are not trained to use autopilot, there is not enough confidence that the autopilot of the car would be able to steer safely in high traffic without causing crashes, and the driver would still need to be alert even though the car is self driving,
Drivers are not trained to use the autopilot feature of the new self driving cars. Pilots need to go through a lot of training before they can fly a plane. Even though planes have an autopilot feature, they still have to be trained to know what to do if the autopilot ever stopped working. Article one states, “Aviations-safety experts have advice for the car industry as it moves to autonomous-driving vehicles: Proceed slowly and make sure dirvers realize the limits of technology”. There is really no point to that. A driver who has experience driving and had to take tests and drivers education in order to obtain a drivers license has a better chance of driving the roads safely instead of a car that the driver would have to babysit. Article one states, “Tesla advises drivers to stay alert and keep their hands on the wheel in case they need to take over unexpectedly.” These self driving car companies are advertising that drivers would be able to do other things while driving, but really they would need to make sure that the autopilot feature is not making any mistakes.
Even though self driving cars are an amazing invention, they are not quite ready to take on roads by themselves as they cannot always know what is going on around them in other cars. Self driving cars need more development and ways to know that they are one hundred percent
