With President Obama getting ready to leave office and the 2016 presidential campaign that's been going on we have more than often heard the question Should community college be free? President Obama came fourth with the idea of making community college free and as we have seen some people including presidential candidates like Bernie Sander support this, however not everyone agrees that this is a good idea. The hope that President Obama has with making community college free is that more people will be encouraged to go out and get their degree. As we often see more students who have graduated high school tend to go to work rather than continuing going to school and part of the reason for this is that these kids don't want to be in debt. Making…
Why allow one state special privilege’s and not the others? By allowing anyone to attend at the same cost, more students will be able to attend the college of their choice without the added fees. Some students are forced into colleges they do not necessarily like or want to attend, because of out of state cost or penalties. By changing this policy students will be able to attend any college without feeling any pressure from being out of state. Lets face it paying for college is hard enough why make it worse on kids who are struggling as it is.…
Paying for community college can be a handful for some. While many can pay for college with financial aid, however a many students argue that they can’t afford to pay off tuition or the cost of books and material because it’s too expensive and they don’t attend community college. This is a serious issue for many people that want to earn a degree in a particular majors. Obama promotes the idea that community college should be free to attend and take class without the burden of paying for tuition or the overwhelming cost that students fear. With that statement gain more of an outcry of students agreeing on the idea and many others opposing of it. In the article by Joanne Jacobs, “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea,” she discusses that there are pros and cons to both arguments.…
College is not to be trifled with! Would a college degree matter as much if it were just handed out to people? The answer is no. Here are the reasons why college should cost the U.S. citizen! For years a college degree has been a key to obtaining better jobs and dreams. If everyone in the U.S. had a million dollars would it be worth the same as it is today?…
If one looks at the data, the bigger problem is that many students don’t finish college. “Only about 55 percent of students graduate six years after starting,” Bob Luebke (a writer for the Civitas Institute.) The problem is not access but completion. So why do people drop out of college? For the most part, money is not the biggest problem; it’s usually factors like family issues, or transportation. Providing free tuition to institutions that graduate only a small amount over 50 percent of their students does not make economic sense. Also, if college tuition does become free for students, colleges will attract more young people who are not suited for college and will most likely drop out as well as more students that will major in fields with little or no market…
It’s no secret that the cost of attending college has escalated in recent years and for the past year there’s been controversial on whether community college should be free or not. According to our president Obama, free community college is a great opportunity for those who are willing to put in the hard work will be able “to graduate ready for the new economy, without a load of debt.”(Mason)…
Whenever someone hears about something being free, they either become interested and accept the free item or they become skeptical about, deciding whether or not it’s a scam of some sort. The idea of having community college be free has been in debate for quite some time. So, should community college be free? I believe it should not, however, the costs of colleges should be lowered in order to accommodate for the needs of the student.…
There are so many people who want to have a chance in having a college education. These people may have the brains for it that could benefit us and many more but simply can't afford it. College should be free so we have many more educated people who make wise decisions and so there won't be less trouble in our…
Due to students on the honor roll work hard, history morals stated free education, and more kids would try harder for education college schooling should be free. Students being able to reach the level of being on the honor roll is not easy. By the past event in the late 1800’s the government should help with college, and in return, people will get hard working kids. With all this research and facts, a college education should become free for young adults who are not able to pay college payments but can keep their grades…
Recently, it was announced that the President is trying to make community college free for all. Most of my friends will be going to community college next year. Some are going there because it was the only option for them to further their education, others because they did not have enough financial help to go to a four-year college. So wouldn’t a free community college have a good impact on them? Supporters of this idea say that it can persuade more people to go to college and get more financial diversity into the community colleges. What they don’t see is the horrible repercussions that those effects will have in the education system that can easily deter people from getting a good education and will instead have hopeful low-income students get a mediocre education.…
During the 2016 presidential election, the debate of whether or not college tuition should be free was a popular one. Although none of the candidates who used it as part of their platform were elected, it remains a popular topic of discussion, especially resonating with college-aged students and those who are still recovering from college debt. Additionally, the socio-economic divide is at an all-time high, and much of it is due to college not being accessible to lower-class individuals. In order to lessen the growing socio-economic divide, college tuition should be free.…
Imagine a world where the poor only become poorer and the wealthy become greedier, a world in which equality is only a figure of speech but no action is set to prove it. The United States has been dramatically declining in its system of education. We have high dropout rates due to burdened students who cannot afford school. President Obama, the nation’s leader, has come up with a proposal to help better the nation and the United States of America. This proposal states that community college shall be free of tuition for 2 years.…
I personally don't believe that college should be free. Making it free would only serve to limit the value of the education while filling colleges with students that have no business/need there. College would become nothing more than a 4 year extension of high school if it were free. As things are now, society needs about 25% of the population to have a college degree for the jobs that require one and about 30% of the population has a degree. As a result, you hear from a lot of people that believe that they wasted time getting the degree because it's not serving them as an employment enhancer.…
The cost of college education today is so high that many young people are giving up their dream of going to college, while many others are graduating deeply in debt “ Bernie Sanders.” Majority of college costs fall between college tuition and fees category. If college is essential for building a career and being a full participant in our democracy as high school once was, shouldn't it be free, paid for by public dollars People believe that colleges are a place to learn and students cannot do so if they cannot afford it. College tuition should be free because to lessen student debt, lower dropout rate, and help graduates be successful. .…
The only way that making community college free for students is to drastically increase taxes in the U.S.. This can really be hard to swallow for families who are currently near or below the poverty line who already struggle with the current rates as they are. Making community college free could potentially ruin the lives of the people it is most directed towards helping.…
