In the 4th paragraph of this essay, the author, Alex Horton explains how his feelings and memories can never fully be realized in a piece of jewelry no matter the care put into its creation. For his example, the metal bracelet he refuses to take off for anyone bears the date of his friend’s death on a shared battlefield years ago. In the beginning, it seems he is almost upset by the simple sterility of the ordering website’s ease of use and the removal of emotion until seeing the finished product. Alex mentions it sometimes may only be redundant and questions how insignificant it is when measured against what he remembers of that person and that fateful day in Iraq. Unfortunately, while it does serve as a daily reminder of the importance of…

Touching Spirit Bear is a phenomenal young adult book about a boy forced, through a situation of his own making, to find himself in the wilds of Alaska. It is one of my favorite books that I have read. The author uses great imagery and interesting dialogues to keep the reader engaged. The main character of Cole Matthews is very well-written. His struggles, both physical and mental are described with vivid detail.…

Touching Spirit Bear is an breath-taking and action-packed story about a boy named Cole who has done bad things in his life so he has to spend a year on an island in Alaska. I think the flashbacks have to be the most important story element. The book uses lots of flashbacks to get people to know a lot about Cole’s past. The flashbacks are important because at the beginning of the story he is going to the island and during the following chapters it has flashbacks that explain and tell the reasons and explanations of why he is going to the island in the first place.…

He was even known and portrayed as a very angry person. As Cole gets to understand the idea of forgiveness and the beauty of life he changed to become a better and a peaceful person. There are no bad people in the world just people who make bad choices. Cole made several mistakes in his life but has learnt from them and is going through taking dips in the freezing pond, rolling the ancestor rock to get rid of his anger so he would not make the mistakes of anger taking over him again. The Cole first sent to the island was feeling consumed by anger, bitterness, and the feeling to unwillingness to change. While the Cole at the end on the novel is a normal boy that is trying control his anger problems and trying to earn forgiveness from others. After Cole had changed he seemed to think that the island could change anyone. Cole thinks to himself that he has really changed. “He felt like a new and a different person.” (Pg.198) That’s why he wanted to bring Peter, the boy who had tried to commit suicide twice after Cole had beaten him up to the island to see if he can change on the island and have another chance at life, like Cole had received. At the end, both Peter and Cole changed spiritually and mentally. The lesson “People can change” is an important lesson from the book because even Cole the juvenile delinquent had changed into a normal teenage boy controlling his…

There are many factors that should be taken into consideration when debating on what the biggest problems are not only in the justice system but also in the court system, many of them being seen throughout the novel Monster by Walter Dean Myers. For instance, race seems to still be an issue in today’s justice system. One example on how race is a problem in the justice system is on the case of Clarence Brandley. Clarence was realized from jail after being wrongfully convicted and on death row for almost one decade as it states in the Montana Abolition Coalition article. Another problem in the justice system is the death penalty. One reason why the death penalty is a problem is because innocent people can be executed as it also states in the Montana Abolition Coalition article. One final problem out of the many is the the court system is actually the jury. For example as it is stated in the article jurs are supposed to be representative of our diverse community (Ladner,2000).…

Also,Gardner set the story in medieval times but represented modern day items. “The dragon only comes out when it is a full moon the dragon comes out of his lair and ravaged the countryside. He frightened maidens and stopped up chimneys and broke store windows and set people's clocks back and made dogs bark until no one could hear himself think”and a lot more, it is clear to see is not a typical dragon. The evolutionary theory is one of the most widely debated scientific theories. Many believe it to be the best explanation for how the living world with all its species developed. Others refuse to believe it and think of the theory as something dangerous. The theory itself states that the natural world, with all its different species, developed from simple organisms. This happened through gradual changes in the organisms' genomes through natural selection, or 'survival of the fittest'. This also means that all organisms are related, some more closely than others. Currently it is the only reasonable theory that explains how the natural world developed. Unlike others, it is not based on speculations or unsupported claims but on solid evidence. Evidence that can not be ignored.…
