Stages Of Stagnation And Ego Integrity Vs. Despair?
Projecting into the future, there are two stages I have not passed through yet. The stages I have not yet passed through are, Generativity vs. Stagnation and Ego Integrity vs. Despair. Generativity vs. Stagnation, is when people start to settle down, grow their families, and develop a sense of being a part of the bigger picture in life. Through the families one creates they give back to society through raising a family, become more productive at work, and become more involved in the community. Failing to do these things we feel unproductive or become stagnant. I will pass through this once I have a family and raising my children, then through them and the things they are apart of I will eventually give back to my community. Here I might become a part of the 4-H group, or I might support organization that are having fundraisers, or I …show more content…
The good deed I did, was I chose to participate in buying Christmas gifts for those in need in our community. We were to choose a family in our community to buy Christmas presents for and deliver them. Seeing the expressions on the families’ faces is the best feeling in the world. Around the holidays things are tough and being able to help is just something little I can do. The parents in the families always start crying and thanking me for what I have done, and the joy in the children's’ faces just warms my heart. Also, not only do I participate in this, but I do good deeds all the time. I help pay for peoples’ meals if I see then scurrying for money and can’t pay and I have mowed my physically disabled neighbors lawn many times this summer when he was sick. Overall, I try to give to others and try to make their days. I chose my grandma to do a good deed because she is one to always do a good deed and I know she will do it. Her biggest one is donating hats, mittens, and scarves she has made to those in need, and others very much appreciate her doing

We are living longer than ever before. One hundred years ago we wouldn’t even be having this conversation since the average lifespan was barely mid-forties. There are more opportunities than ever before to recreate our lives and our work. When we work without purpose and without meaning, our lives grow empty and lifeless. Each day is just like the previous day and the cycle continues until we retire and die. We live for tomorrow; just 2 more years, or 6 more years, or 10 more years at our miserable jobs until we’ve saved enough money to finally stop. We’re not sure what we will do but we know it won’t be anything like what we are doing now. Then sadly, life gets in the way, and something happens to block our hopes and dreams of a more fulfilling…

My biggest community activity is for Special Olympics of New Jersey. My family and I attend many of the events for SONJ including the Summer Games. I started volunteering by working and playing with the athletes. The area we staffed was where the athletes came to take a break and play with carnival-like games. The ages ranged from little kids to adults. It was fun putting smiles on their faces when you told them they won! It showed me we aren’t any different than them. They still like to do sports and have fun. They love to win prizes as do we. They just have disabilities that make them special. Over all volunteering for SONJ is a fantastic experience and in my opinion every boy and…

One of the most memorable instances in which I contributed to the greater good was during the summer of my freshman year where I volunteered at West Pines Community Church. Volunteering has always been an important aspect of my life. Whether donating food or painting a house, it has allowed me to be extremely grateful and humble for my lifestyle because everybody is not as blessed as I am. Volunteering has taught me that even the smallest gift, such as a smile, can be a great gift to someone because it can show that you care and want to be involved. It has allowed me to develop soft skills, and learn more about myself and my HBCU community. One of my greatest accomplishment in life was that I volunteered 1,000 hours in high school.…

I volunteer in my community whenever I get the opportunity. For example, I helped students get to school safely and I helped out around the school. I volunteered at the public library to help younger children. I now see it is hard work to get children focused and help them not make a big mess, but I enjoyed helping them in any way I can. Volunteering at the public library also taught me about patience. Not everything went exactly how I planned it out, but at the end it still worked out. My time at the library also taught me about effort.…

When I was younger, I participated in Girl Scouts where we volunteered in food pantries, senior centers, hospitals, animal shelters and charities for the less fortunate. We also participated in service projects such as making cards for veterans, making blankets for hospitals and the homeless, and made care packages for veterans and the hurricane victims. Volunteering is important to me because I had an aunt that unfortunately died of cancer and I feel that no one should have to go through the pain and suffering that she did.…

As long as I can remember service to others was always encouraged by my family and teachers. For example, I helped teachers with the intent of lightening their load of work so they can be able to go home earlier. Things like this make me proud because I am able to help others, and to bring a smile to their faces. My excuse to avoid community service was that I always thought that school was all about homework and getting good grades to be on the top 20 of your class. Truth is I have always overlooked this people thinking they were being lazy for not working, but through this community service I learned that each and everyone around the world is fighting their own battles and we all deal with them the best way we can. I am proud of myself because I went to that community service and learned about this people who I had always stereotyped by their actions, community service has encouraged me to actively listen and learn from others, to walk alongside my neighborhood and to build new…

I've volunteered in a number of places and many events, but the one's that have left an impact on me is my time spent at The Women's safe house and Guardian Angels shop and food pantry. They both helped my family through the crisis of leaving my abusive father financially, emotionally, and physically. At the Woman safe house I couldn't help but see the kids and teenager that I was babysitting and see myself in there place and I quickly became that mentor I and help them see past the darkness and into their bright futures. I wanted to give back to the guardian angels for helping us with clothes and food so now I help run their thrift shop and work as the secretary during pantry day. All the people I serve are in the place my family and I was…

A group of people can get together on a weekend and make some difference in the lives of others. We did not just offer our services, but also our company. The whole experience was not something that I would consider a chore or waste of my time. There was no skin off of my nose for doing this, but my work would likely have gone undone if we had decided to help some other place. Charity and civic engagement has always been something important to my family.…

The task in this stage is contributing to society and others through multiple methods and finding your purpose in this world. If an individual failed at this task, they undergo stagnation and begin to become disconnected with society and apathetic to “productivity and self- improvement” (296). His own needs matter before anyone else’s. In perspective, the man realized that certain opportunities were passed by, and he has not contributed to the growth of society. Therefore, he is experiencing a “mid-life crisis.”…

Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…
