Being a cheerleading coach involves lots of problem solving. When something goes wrong or is not working, it is my job to figure out why and instruct them how to fix it. Open communication between the girls and myself is extremely important.
In addition to working with little girls, I also coach and mentor girls around my own age. In the beginning, I found it difficult to coach
girls my own age and earn their respect as a coach and not a peer. I was able to gain their respect after many practices. This experience has helped me become a better leader.
I have learned my own lessons as well. Patience and perseverance are key. Being boss doesn’t mean being bossy. These are lessons I will carry throughout my life.
