The Honors Forum Setting
The Honors Forum meeting that has influenced me the most in the last month was the meeting on what is considered proper dress attire. I've never been the most well dressed person, so having someone lay out what is appropriate was very helpful. Something that that stuck out to me was the way that people perceive you based on what you wear. It makes complete sense now that someone has said it to me, but it has begun to change the way that I see myself. In the line of work that I am going into where business casual is honestly cargo shorts and a Marvel shirt, it hadn't dawned on me how people outside of my career path may see me. Anyone who doesn't know that I am a film student may think that I am lazy and don't care about getting a job, when

Being raised from the Delta, I had/have to overcome many obstacles. My biggest barrier is being successful after high school because of the circumstances I face living in Indianola, MS. It may be a hitch, but it is not impossible to overcome it. Everyday I strive to not fall under the stereotype that if black people are given something difficult, then they want do it. I have a 3.4 GPA, I am a founding member of the Mighty Rams Honor Society. The MRHS is designed to honor, challenge and develop those students who have shown a commitment to the advancement of the school`s mission and vision for themselves and their classmates. I am honored to be apart of that organization. It is my greatest achievement yet. I am also a member of the National Tech Honor Society.…

During these activities I enjoyed giving back to the community which I live in and plan to continue to give back more to my community and other communities. Ultimately character to me is represented through a person through great characteristics such as responsibility, good behavior, reliability and much more. I personally believe that I am a representation of character, as a fact responsibility is something that I find to be very important to me because people such as your teachers and peers will always count on you. As well as having responsibility being reliable to my peers is something that I care much about. Being reliable to others isn’t just helping others through judgement but helping that person with rational advice which represents how much you care for them. Lastly good behavior is something that I personally strive for everyday from following the rules to being respectful, I feel like I’m doing the correct thing but I also feel like a role model to others. The National Honors Society is represented by Four pillars that represents the success of many students like me that are passionate in what they are doing and that want to become NHS member to succeed in the future not for themselves but to share it with others and change the world one step at a…

National Honor Society continues to shape me into an independent, self-sufficient young adult. The four pillars play an important role in my life no matter where I am. For example, whether I’m at work, in school, or on the basketball court, scholarship, service, leadership, and character transform me into a compassionate leader. Furthermore, National Honor Society will also continue to lead me through the rest of my life. As I head off to college, I will always have the traditional values of the four pillars to lean on. While studying in the field of nursing, I can take what I learned and apply it to my everyday life, even when helping others. Hopefully if I am successful, my leadership will rub off on others, transforming their lives as I…

A member of such a society based on character, scholarship and leadership is one who can demonstrate these three tasks in their everyday lives. The ease of maintaining a balanced schedule whilst also upholding these characteristics may not be the simplest of tasks at times, even for the best students, although the drive to strive for this essence sets individuals apart from the majority. I believe that in my everyday life, I demonstrate these ideals and would heartily enjoy guiding others in them. To be exercise any of these qualities requires one’s own desire, a desire which I not only try to instill into myself, but into others as well. Being part of the National Honor Society would not only be an honor in and of itself, but an honor which is able to transcend its membership and let a person such as myself try to better the school, town, and familial communities by doing good in each of them.…

Throughout high school I was able to develop many skills pertaining to the social aspects of college, which have really helped me. Growing up, I’ve been fortunate enough to live in a two parent, middle class home. I have never experienced death of a family member or someone close to me. I have been so lucky to have such a wonderful life. Once I started going to leadership camps, meeting kids who have had such difficulties in their lives I realized not everyone’s lives are as happy-go-lucky as mine. This has taught me to treat every individual I meet in college with compassion and kindness, as you never know what kind of life they’ve had. No one should be judged by his or her social class, friend group, how they dress, or come off in public settings. Each person has experienced some hardship in their life and thus everyone deserves their chance to show a person who they truly are. Using this mindset I have been able to make many friends in organizations such as the President’s Leadership Class in which I wouldn’t have typically met them. This predetermined view of the world has helped me graciously in college.…

I am honored to be considered among the superior academic students at MCC and to be applying to the National Honor Society. If I am accepted into the National Honor Society, a service obligation that I would like to propose is collecting items for the babies and mothers in the Genesis House here in Melbourne. The Genesis House is a donation run organization that not only helps pregnant mothers, but also mothers who have newborns or young toddlers. I feel that this project would make an impact on many people’s lives. Most people in our world today believe that people in the Genesis House of Melbourne are fine because they have the volunteers there to support and care for them which sadly, isn’t always the case.…

I really do hate the feeling of wearing clothes I would be so uncomfortable in and it makes working a lot harder. Society, including me, all wants to be comfortable in work places, but wearing what is considered comfortable is “wrong.” Findings from Muzader Sherif explained that social norms develop because “ we have a strong desire to be “correct” – to behave in an appropriate manner – and behaving consistently with social norms help us attain that goal” (266). That was one foundation to it and another “is the desire to be accepted by others and liked by them” (266). They are both very true and the second one really relates to my norm violation. Even though I was comfortable and having fun in my clothes, my boss and parents of the students would not like it. They would feel like it is a work and school environment, but I was dressed like I was not respecting that environment. So to them, they would find it very hard to accept me as a tutor for the job and for the students because I did not look professional. I was able to learn from the different perspectives from this experience, but I would not dress improperly to work…

Professor Richard Gunde (2002) posits that a person’s physical appearance is the foundation on which other people judge them by (p.71). I myself as a banker who works for a well-known state-run bank deals with plenty of people face to face every day believe that it’s important to be well dressed and well educated and well communicated i.e. to have nice window, BUT more importantly my clients want me to be a professional banker with sufficient skills who fulfills their needs and to do my job best. I always use to wear official cloths i.e. suits in black and chocolate brown with polished shoes using men’s brand perfume wearing eye glasses shaved face every other day short cut hair style look so serious at work .But those who get familiar with me closer knew me as a friendly , sociable with good sense of humor who loves to be at the service of his clients. So , let me say, personality is the gateway into knowing whom people truly are.…
