Promoting and supporting individual rights to dignity:
Promoting and supporting individual rights to dignity means that it gives a person a sense of independence and gives them their rights. It emphasises the point of protecting them from abuse, promotes safety and health. Places such as care homes promote this care value as they treat the elderly people with respect and just how they want to be treated. They also wash the care home regularly to maintain it to be clean, as the elderly are more likely to be sick. …show more content…
An example of how Honilands promotes this care value is that they give children a choice of activities to support all aspects of PIES. They also show children and families that they value them as individuals by giving respect and developing a relationship with both parents and children, they promote health and safety by making sure that all gates are closed, making sure all equipment’s are cleaned, keep a log of any accidents and carry out risk assessments to ensure everyone is safe.
The lack of promoting and supporting individual rights to dignity gives a person a lack of identity and makes the person suffer from emotional abuse like name calling or ignoring them. This gives a negative impact on a person as it will cause them mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Also without health and safety people would be in risk of being hurt and have a higher risk of being ill.
Promoting anti-discriminatory practice:
Promoting anti-discriminatory practice means that every individual has the right to be different from everyone else.
It makes awareness on assumptions made surrounding gender, race, age, sexuality, disability and class. it also makes sure that people understand prejudice, stereotyping and labelling and knowing their affects. One service that promotes anti-discriminatory practice is a hospital as they help all people of every race and religion and makes them all feel accepted and welcomed. An example of how Honilands promotes anti-discriminatory practice because they challenge expressions of prejudice, racism, homophobia. This is because there is a poster clearly displayed at Honilands children centre that discrimination will not be tolerated and if people continue they will be removed from children centre. They also welcome everybody from every background. This is because in the children centre there is a diverse amount of people and a child of nearly every …show more content…
race.
A lack of anti-discriminatory practice can result in some people feeling low about themselves making them have a low self-esteem causing them to break down mentally. They will not feel a sense of belonging and will feel as if they need to change who they are to it in to society. Also the lack of learning about the stereotypes and prejudice will effect a person as they will not get a full understanding of why some people are the way they are and will therefore discriminate.
Promoting effective communication and relationships:
Promoting effective communication and relationships means that a care worker will provide and obtain information with their client, expressing their values and understanding their needs, fears and wishes that will help maintain their identity.
A place that promotes effective communication and relationships are hospitals when the doctors provide information to their patient about their specific questions or concerns. If their patient is worried or scared they say their information in a way that will help them be calm and relax. In Honilands children centre they promote this value by having a lot of leaflets about different services across Enfield and give advice on how to best look after children e.g. what to feed children, what to play and some reading ideas. The way they communicate with the parents and with the children are different as well. When they speak to children they kneel down so they are eye contact and use language appropriate for children. When they speak to the parents or carers they speak clearly with a soft friendly tone. They also allow time for children and their families to ask questions and the staff have to listen carefully and they keep accurate written records. The lack of this care value will make people have a withdrawal from others as they will feel as they can’t have a conversation properly affecting their social needs. If this happens they will lose
confidence.
Maintaining confidentiality of information
Maintaining confidentiality of information means keeping a client’s information between you and the client, and not telling others including co-workers, friends, family, and anyone the client does not want to know. The types of information that is considered confidential can be the clients name, date of birth, age, sex and address. It can also be current contact details of family, bank details, medical history or records and personal care issues. Ways that services maintain confidentiality of information is by placing policies, procedures and guidelines to protect the information. By keeping the information confidential you are protecting and valuing the client. Services that provide confidentiality of information are place such as counselling and therapist sessions. They store away their client’s information in their files and lock them in a draw that only they are able to open. Honilands children centre also promotes confi9dentiality of information by making the Admin keeping personal and confidential information secure in a locked cabinet at all times. They also use passwords when accessing electronic records to Enfield Children’s services so no one can get access to the information. They are also prohibited from gossiping about the children or their families in front of others.
Acknowledging individual personal beliefs and identity
Acknowledging individual personal beliefs and identity means to understand and showing people that they have the right to be different. The care practitioners should have an open mind and adaptable so everyone can have their health, development and welfare needs taken care of. Also service users hold a large variety of spiritual and religious beliefs and personal values. This can affect the way some service users want to be taken care of as they have different ideas on how to be provided with care. An example of this is if someone has a religion such as Islam can’t have specific foods such as pork or Haram meat. This means that the service providers have to provide food that all religions or faiths can take. Honilands children centre acknowledges individual personal beliefs and identity by making sure the cultural requirements and beliefs are met by offering food that will not offend anybody. They do this by offering Halal food for Muslims and kosher foods for Jewish people. They also try to call the children and families by their correct name and pronounce it properly as it is respectful and acknowledges their cultural or beliefs as the way the pronunciation is can change the meaning in languages such as Arabic.
