The Moment That I Will Never Forget
The moment that I will never forget
The scorching sun was beating against my olive, gold skin as a drop of sweat trickled down my face, slowly and gradually. The glorious scenery dazzled, the cool, summer breeze blew through my lush brown locks. Deep blue ocean tide’s lapped against my feet like a soft tender kiss and retreated slowly. The palm trees hypnotically shimmied from side to side in a swaying motion.
As I walked across the beach, each step I took my foot sunk into the golden sand like a foot massage. Leaving a speck of sand that resembled gold dust shimmering in the sunlight. The serenity and tranquillity of the beach exploded my sense, from the sweet sound of birds singing to the tantalising aroma of nature surrounding me.
I gazed into the distance and watched the waves crashing against one another, until an immense gust of wind pushed the final wave towards me. I was alarmed at the petrifying sight of water coming right at me. With nowhere to run I froze and glanced at the water one final time before it washed me into the ocean. The water was vigorous, suddenly I felt helpless as it choked me. Gasping for every breath I could, I attempted to swim towards the shore. This was useless. I was floating further and further away from the shore, the water was flying up my nose and blocking my eyesight as I tried to scream for help but, all I heard was my echo.
Darkness reigned upon me and the weather took a turn for the worst, rain and hailstone made it tougher for me to breathe. My arms felt fragile and before I knew it I couldn’t move them, frozen from the horrific conditions I was stranded in I tried to move my arm but felt nothing. Petrifyingly I screamed from the top of my lungs, all my energy went into getting help but I wasn’t shell-shocked when I got no reply. After all I was stuck in the middle of nowhere.
I whine and wept at the thought of not seeing my parents and family again, all I had was blurred

I knew I wouldn’t make it to the top of the murky, warm and brown waters. I could feel the oxygen being released quickly from my lungs and bubbles swiftly skimming my skin as I slowly reached the bottom of the lake. I heard the faint cries for help and loud splashing as my sight becomes blurred. I felt someone’s hands grab mine and pull me onto the grainy dusty dirt. My vision comes back and I feel everyone’s eyes on me. They all immediately start laughing at me as I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me, feeling something tightly clutch my body.…

I ran outside to find one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen. The long stretch of sand was pure white and sparkled in the sun as if it had glitter mixed in with it. It almost looked like snow. The sand was hot on my feet as I walked down the beach to the water. I could hear it squeak a little with every foot step. As I…

Breathing every chance I get. Scattered debris fills the water, I lay as close to the ground as I can trying not to get sliced. I'm panicking, I'm struggling to breath… The wave begins to lower, it dies down and washes away. As I close my eyes I start to feel the heavy water evaporate off my body, while I lay on the destroyed mountain. I'm coughing and coughing, spitting out filthy water, trying to breath. I hear footsteps coming closer to me, I slowly try to open my eyes. I faintly see a man bending down in front of me. He lifts me up and holds my body. I open my…

I run as fast as a storm to get to the blockades for cover. Bullets whizz, whistle and whoosh past. My heart pounds against my ribcage, bursting to jump out. Men tumble to the floor, one by one dropping to their knees, like they are sitting ducks. I stumble and fall into the water, the only thing calm. Slowly sinking, I scream for help. But no sound comes out. The only thing that did was bubbles of air. I was battling Mother Nature herself...this was the end... I close my eyes, slowly running out of oxygen. But my men cut the bag off my back and I’m free...Totally free...…

The image of myself in the crevice of the sand underwater and the top layer of the ocean replays in my mind often. I can recall the moment’s features exactly. A few days later, my sister Andie told me how terrified she was seeing my head roll under the water in the distance. It is apparent to me that this is what big sisters are for, her timing really came in at the right moment to watch over me that day. I remember hearing Andie screaming as I fell in and out of consciousness “Mom take her! Mom! Take her!”. Andie had ripped me out of the water as the waves crashed over, throwing us into sharp coral on the shore. Every bash into the coral was a cut against our skin. We wrestled with the land. This end portion to me is all a blur. My sister handed me off to my mom and my haze of a nightmare experience was over.…

I woke up hazed with blurred vision. The right side of my face was dried and burned. The left side of my face was soaked in salt water and blood. I was freaked out and picked up my head and blinked rapidly. I saw nothing but blue for miles and miles, the sky and the water. When I looked down I saw nothing but a small black and orange rubber dingy. I tried to think about what had happened. It was then when I realized I couldn't even remember my own name. Then panic just settled in for some reason I jumped in the water freaking out. I came to my senses and quickly started using all my strength to hurdle myself in the dingy.…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…
