The Slime That Devoured The City
1. “Take that you blockhead! HA HA HA!” Angelo hated it when Max and his gang of bullies threw things at him. He also hated his new school, Peakview Middle. The only thing he liked about it was the library. It was huge and full of books of every genre. Boy, Angelo would do anything for a book, especially The Monsters book series. His favorite one was The Slime That Devoured The City which he was doing a book report on at his old school, Sun Valley. Angelo begged his mom to stay, but he got stuck here instead.
During reading, his 6th grade teacher Mrs. Youlitski, wearing her typical pac-man outfit called him to her desk. When angelo arrived there, Mrs. Youlitski was looking at him with“Your mother told me you were working on a book report.”
“Yes?” Angelo replied shakily
“There is a computer in the library. As long as you ‘control’ yourself you can go.” Angelo went off happily to the library. But as he looked back Mrs. Youlitski had the same wide and evil grin as . “Who’s there!” Angelo shouted into the darkness. The shuffling had stopped

“HELLO MY NAME IS B-O-B YOUR PERSONAL VIRTUAL WORLD GUIDE!”

Angelo turned around and to his surprise saw a robot staring back at him. “What is this place?”

“THIS IS VIRTUAL WORLD! NOW WHICH WEBSITE, GAME, OR SEARCH ENGINE WOULD YOU LIKE TO USE?”

“Whuh”

“YOU KNOW WHAT, I’VE HAD ENOUGH” Angelo heard shuffling, and the short tempered robot left Angelo in

Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

In this day and age, new technology is everywhere, but it’s usually in the form of phones, computers, and, now, watches. However, we’re forgetting one, robots. Now, they’re still quite popular, but they’re mostly the ideals of science fiction worlds set so far into the future we’ve migrated to space. Is it really so farfetched of an idea, though, to think that maybe we could achieve that level? No, in fact and despite the spotlight being diverted away, we’re heading down the path to robo-world already. What a robot is and has been is quite a lenient description, but no one can deny how much they’ve already shaped our lives. According to the passage “Robots Long Ago” by Karen Brinkmann, “Today robots help people with everything from surgery…

The next progression of the computer as a mobile unit, robot, may like the personal computer, become a common and essential companion at home and in the workplace.…
