Tuckman's Teamwork Theory
Taking part in the health challenge was an eye-opening experience, especially working in an interdisciplinary team with others in different parts of the health department. From what I’ve learned through the research of Tuckerman’s teamwork theory, I can apply this to the difficulties and was as gone well in my own experience of the health challenge.
Teamwork theory was founded by Tuckerman, who looked at how teams working in small groups from several perspectives, one of these being reviewing 50 articles, and identified 2 common features the group structure and task theory. Additionally, he identified four common stages in how groups evolve into a team; forming, storming, norming and preforming. ("Teamwork Theory, Tuckman's Stages of Group

It did become hard to coordinate everyone and find a time which was suitable for everyone, in the end we decided that this was not possible due to everyone’s different and busy timetables. In the end, we settled for going in two groups., however we did have incidents where people in my group dropped out of neighbourhood visit last minute and instead went at another time. This seemed to be counterproductive because the whole point of the task, was to go together in my understanding to get to know one another better. Therefore, build a better relationship with one another. Which as suggested by the teamwork theory, in the norming stage close relationship can establish group norms and stronger working relationship. Which in term could lead to increased productivity and allow us to ask help from one another. It has made me think about how I will work within a team next time, and how I will have to work with people of different professions in my chosen career and this experience has given me a first glance at this. To develop my own academic and professional skills, I have decided to seek volunteer work so I can gain experience and I have also learnt that I enjoy working in a large group of people. Rather than by myself. I will work more openly with my colleagues and peers next time around, by being more confident in my ideas and abilities. Lastly, I think both things will help me make a positive impact to my development in my academic career, and help me later working in health
