The Honors College at Florida International University provides a world ahead education. Through the Honors classes, I will be able to challenge myself with rigorous courses. This will help achieve my academic goal of graduating with a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) because the honors classes will prepare me for my other classes such as the ones in the university core curriculum. For example, the honors courses will make me a better writer, which would improve my critical thinking skill that would allow me to process information more efficiently. This will cause my other normal classes to become easier, which makes a 4.0 GPA attainable. Allowing and preparing me for a perfect…

From a lack of available parking spaces, to poorly managed dining services, the university has no shortage of problems that need to be solved. One problem in particular that deserves immediate attention is the issue of the Honors College. Being enrolled in the Jesup Scott Honors College is a prestigious honor and is a well-respected program; however, there are issues within the Honors College that make it difficult for the wide-eyed, ambitious freshmen to graduate as honors students. A major dilemma that works against students is the seemingly endless list of requirements to graduate with honors. Students are expected to complete 33 semester hours of honors courses, in addition to completing a capstone thesis and enroll in upper-level interdisciplinary seminars. These requirements may even be more strict for students in different majors/colleges. Another problem, is the lack of incentives for students to remain in the Honors College. While the thought of graduating with a medallion around one’s neck and more knowledge than most may seem enticing to some, most students need something extra to encourage them to stay in the program. Finally, an issue that impacts the majority of honors students is the lack of…

When I transferred to Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), I was fortunate to be selected to the Honors Transfer Fellows program. As a requirement of this program, I was required to complete an undergraduate thesis and take additional classes along with the regular curriculum for my major. While this project was a valuable experience, it was also challenging to balance the workload of conducting thesis research, attending classes, working part time, and working as a clinician at the MTSU Speech Clinic. Over the past year, I have developed skills, such as time management and prioritization, that have helped me succeed as a student at MTSU. Additionally, completing a thesis while attending classes and working has helped me become an independent student. To explain, over the course of the entire project, I had only two deadlines, one for the proposal submission and one for thesis submission. As a result, I had to create my own deadlines for various aspects of the thesis, such as data collection and analysis.…

Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…

I am going to tell you a little about my past semester at Bridgewater College well for starters one factor that may have contributed to my failure for studying effectively was that I was helping my mother whenever I came back home for breaks since she had breast cancer and since my mother is currently not working at this moment in time it is a bit difficult for me to continue my education on my own without financial help. Another reason is that I had just recently buried my grandmother who had passed away from pneumonia the week before finals. If I get the opportunity to come back this semester I will try every new tactic thrown my way to help me understand the material which is given to me and relate it to questions that I think my professors…

I chose to apply for the position of Community Enhancements Officer because this is a position where I would need to listen to the opinions about the dorm that my fellow residents have. The dorms at Carolina are nice and kept up well, but there is always something that could be improved on. Sometimes this might be something that faculty wouldn’t think of as many don’t live in the dorm like the students do. Whether the residents want something to make life a little easier or if they want something out of reach, I will be able research what they want, be a voice for the residents and let them know the truth. I enjoy hearing the opinions of other residents about the dorm which I believe would be helpful as a Community Enhancement Officer.…

The Honors Program grabbed my attention because it’s for academically outstanding students and I am that student. Throughout my years of high school, I have taken Advanced Placement and Honors classes and have done very well in them. Being average is not okay for me, I want to do my best and reach my fullest potential in everything I do. I like being challenged mentally and that is exactly what the Honors Program will do for me. In the Honors Program I will be able to engage in social and cultural seminars that I know I will thoroughly enjoy. I have been a part of Diversity Club where different cultures come together to share ideas, exchange food, and get to know more about each others’ culture, so I have an idea of what seminars are like. I am a very outgoing person and I love to meet and interact with new people so through these seminars and projects I will be able to do that. I would also like to get a broader perspective on the world and throughout the many different projects, I will gain that. I read about the Honors Program and what will be done throughout the four years and I thought to myself that this is where I belong, I will fit right in. Since my freshman year, I have been in the Lady Mountie Soccer team and since my sophomore year I have been in the Shades Valley Color Guard. While still being in those sports activities, I also take part in other organizations like the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society, and at same time taking AP classes. From being in all of these activities and classes, I have learned to be excellent at time scheduling with homework, soccer and color guard practices, and meetings. Although it may be challenging to keep track of time while taking more classes with UA Early College, I am still willing to proceed with the program because I know that there will be help from UA Early College peer coaches, and learning communities coordinator. Also I regularly finish all of my work that my AP classes gives me, and I dedicate myself to my other extracurricular activities. Therefore, I have no doubt that I would be successful as a UA Early College student because I know how to leave space for my studies, I am an eligible student, and I can commit to learning at a UA Early…
