Unit 1
Use and develop systems that promote communication
In my role as team leader I communicate with many people on a daily basis. I communicate with the people we support, (who have learning disabilities), the staff team, the families of the people we support and other professionals that have any involvement with the health care or support of the individuals in our care. The way I communicate depends on who I am communicating with. When communicating I always need to speak clearly to ensure that other people understand what I am saying.
When communicating with other professionals I need to ensure that I pass over relevant information that is accurate and relevant. When communicating with parents I need to ensure that I am polite, welcoming and communicate to a level of their understanding as parents of the people we support may also have a learning disability. When communicating with parents I need to be aware of not breaching any confidentiality relating to their relatives, as the people we support are adults and may not want their families knowing everything that is going on in their life and the choices that they make, this may be how they spend their money or what they do at a week end.
When communicating with members of staff I need to speak clearly and be precise in what I am saying, I also need to listen to ensure there are no misunderstandings of what is being passed over or any information being given.
