The importance of Mirman's article helps explains the meaning of what it is to be a Creator or to be a Victim in a simple but well put the short story.
In his article, he compares the outcome of two students, one as the victim and the other as a creator. Ok, so the teacher assigned two students an assignment of bringing in a textbook for the second week of class. Then the second week came but only one the two students got a book. The teacher asks the first student if she got the textbook for the class. She responded no she was not able to find one because she was not able to find it at the store. She replied "IT'S NOT MY FAULT! IT'S THE BOOKSTORE FAULT! she is the example of a Victim. The reason for this is because Victims don't take responsibility for their actions. Then the teacher went on to the second student, and ask if she got the book. She said yes but, it was not easy to find one for you see the bookstore was out of them in fact every bookstore around here was out of them, i got mine online for half the price.

In the story, Philip Malloy is to blame because he did not apologize to Miss Narwin because he was too prideful and set on getting out of her class. Philip was sent to the office and the vice principal said that if Philip apologized then he would not have to suspend him but Philip was too prideful. If Philip would have apologized and talked about an agreement, he would not have been suspended. The other reason Philip is to blame is because he lied about what happened and he even lied to a reporter. Philip came home and lied to his parents and a reporter so then everyone thought that he was a hero but his friends knew the truth and did not like him for it. A victim “is an individual who suffer injuries, losses, or hardships for any reason”, (Karmen, 2013). Persons may become victims of “accidents, natural disasters, diseases, or social problems such as warfare, discrimination, political witch hunts, and other injustices”, (Karmen, 2013). Being a victim of a crime can be very traumatic at times. People often tend to forget the damage it may cause to family, friends, and significant others. "Victim", what is a victim? Webster’s definition of a victim is "one that is prayed upon and usually affected by a force or agent." my definition of victim is someone who has had a terrible thing happen to them. By both my and Webster’s definition both the narrator from the poem "I fight like a girl" and Malinda from the book "speak" are victims. Both in the poem and in the book the narrators/main characters go thru a lot and at some point reach the point when they are finally ready to fight back and stand up for themselves.…

Moving to northern Wisconsin as a young girl was a scary and confusing time. Having been born in Chicago, all I knew was a big city, the crowds of people, the nonstop traffic and all the noises. My home, it was the only place I knew. How could my parents make a decision like this? How could they make me move to a place I had only visited once before -- but barely remembered? The sadness I felt was so overwhelming during that transition that I told myself that if I ever had a family, I would never make them move. As an adult, many years later, I look back and almost chuckle. My family and I have moved many times, for work or family and even adventure. Now as an adult, I push my children to find adventure in every move…
