Why School Should Start Later
Ever imagined what it would be like to get out early and have a lot of time to do whatever you want before the sun goes down? Do you think that school should start later to give teenagers more sleep? School shouldn't start later because 8:45 is already late enough, a earlier start makes for an earlier finish, and if students want more sleep then they should go to bed earlier.
If you're in the school district I go to the school starts at 8:45. In my opinion school starting at that time is already pretty late in the morning. Depending on what time you get up if you get up at 7am and go to bed at 9pm that is 10 hours of sleep which is exactly enough sleep even a little more than what researchers show teens need. Studies show that teens need 9 hours to 9 in a half hours of sleep. (Nationwidechildrens.org)

According to Frederick Johnson, a doctor from the National Sleep Foundation (“Teens and Sleep”), “Teenagers need between nine and 10 hours of sleep per night.” Getting up as early as six in the morning for school can leave kids with less than six hours of sleep. Waking up later will allow them to get more sleep, and be healthier. When you don’t get enough sleep, you are more likely to get sick and miss school. It also takes your body more time to recover if you do get sick when you don’t get enough sleep.…

It's a proven fact that teenagers need between 8 and a half and nine hours of sleep each night. It's also a proven fact that only fifteen precent of teenagers get the sleep that they need. It baffles me that more than twenty-five precent of teenagers sleep less than seven hours a night. If you one of those teenagers, part of the reason why this is happening is because school starts so early in the morning. If school hours were changed, teenagers would be much healthier and feel better about themselves.…
