Why We Should Change School Lunches
School lunches:
I am not happy with the school lunch at my school. When lunchtime comes I never look forward to the food that the cafeteria is offering. I think that the school lunch needs some improvement and these are some reasons why and also some ways I think it can be improved.
The food isn’t fresh. I don’t know if the meals are cooked somewhere else but the vegetables always are overcooked and the main courses seem lifeless. Yesterday for lunch we were served over cooked carrots which were soft and colorless and the fish sticks were tastless. Why don’t they cook the food at school and serve us fresh food instead of reheat food? The food would be more nutritous that way too.
I would like to have some more choices for lunch. If I don’t want to eat spaghetti and meatballs and that is the only thing that is being offered that day, I will either not eat it and be hungry or eat it and be unhappy. Why not give us two hot meals to choose from so that kids don’t have to eat what they don’t like? So if I don’t want to eat spaghetti and meatballs I can have a grilled cheese sandwich instead.
Beverages are important to kids too. A lot of my friends take the milk but don’t drink it. Milk is good with cookies and cereal but for lunch and dinner juice is better. So instead of milk they should give us apple or grape juice to drink. Juice is nutritous and there would be less wasted milk at the end of the day.
School lunch could be better. It can be fresher, there should be more foods choices to select from and milk should be replaced by juice. Eating lunch should be a positive experiences and by making some changes, it can

The issue expressed in the article, “Should Lunch Be Longer”, written by Mackenzie Carro, states that lunch in numerous places needs to be prolonged. In addition, she argues that school schedules are very tight and that extending lunch may make it worse. Even though many students say that lunch should be longer, I definitely disagree. This argument has been in the air for countless years. Nevertheless, nobody has done much to change this.…

I used to eat school lunches until I found a bug in my food and the food started making me sick. They also don´t fill you up because I always went to class hungry after lunch. They should add more healthy foods. A look at one school’s burger that had twenty-six ingredients and they contained disodium inosinate, a flavor additive that can spike heart rate. It also contained caramel color, which contains sulfites and ammonia.…

Imagine this, you walk into the cafeteria to find the smell of spaghetti, gross! You get a tray anyway. That's all that they have so it`s your only option. You only push the mushy noodles around the tray then throw it away once your lunch period is over. The next period you hear your stomach growl and wish you could have had another option at lunch. If schools provided more lunch options this problem would happen less or even disappear completely.…

Another reason cafeterias should start serving healthier food is that junk food does not give kids the energy needed to stay focused in school or the power to participate in sports. “The cafeteria must offer produce, dairy, protein and grain, but three groups constitute a full meal, so many students leave behind the fruits and vegetables” (Martinez, 1). Lunch is right in the middle of the day, if you eat fatty or sugary foods, it could cause you to get tired and not pay attention in your afternoon classes. In addition, junk food caps your energy, which affects your physical activity. You cannot perform your best if you don’t have any energy. Children should be eating more healthy, natural foods.…

School lunches are almost always inadequate. More than half the students leave lunch hungry. They give choices of vegetables but when they don't taste good they'll just be trashed. If they eat eight hundred calorie meals and they only eat one fourth they only get two hundred of those calories. That's possibly for a high school student that plays three sports a year that won't be home until after six or seven o'clock.…

This low-quality food is why many students would rather not eat. Cedric Bonsol, a junior who attends Bravo high school in Los Angeles said, “’Sometimes, I don't eat because I don't like it’" (Lin). This school meals are not up to par, and that is why so many students do eat the school provided lunches. If the schools started serving better quality food than what they are serving now, more students would likely begin to participate in the National School Lunch…

School lunches lack healthy nutrients that growing children and teens need. Because, schools lack the proper funding needed to support students with healthy lunches, students have a horrible diet. A lot of people, including myself, believe that if healthy school lunches were provided students at home would make better choices when it came to what snacks they ate between meals. If schools got better funding for healthier lunches it could theoretically save the government more money because the students in turn would have less health problems.…
