The Fox and the Horse Alternate Ending “When the master saw him he was delighted, and said to him; “You shall stay with me, and have a good time as long as you live.” Indeed they did, the fox and horse became close friends and enjoyed each other's company. They eat lavish and laughed each night about the story of the foolish lion. At gatherings they told the story to the guest. It was like a tradition. Everynight they had their laughs, but the horse never told the fox the true story of what had happened with the lion that one day. The following evening “Fox!” the horse exclaimed in the small house. The fox yelled back, and demanded the horse come down the stairs to talk with him. The horse sat down and said “ Fox, it has been 5 years, and each day I am filled with regret. Today I have decided I will no longer lie to you about that day.” The fox sat, confused, but nodded. “ The day I dragged the lion home, I brought him back, and when you asked me to skin him so we could enjoy our feast, I let him go. Instead I brought back the meat of a cow to feast on.” The fox turned redder than usual “ You did WHAT!” the fox yelled. The horse ran up the stairs in tears. To his surprise when he opened the door the fox was sitting down eating lunch. The fox smiled and asked the horse how his journey was. The horse sat down and said “ I'm so sorry fox, I went searching for the lion, but I couldn't find him. All I wanted to do was make it up to you. I shouldn't have let the lion go.” The fox smiled and said “ Horse, Im not mad, why do you think I let you go on the journey?” The horse looked up at the fox, confused. The fox said “ Remember what I said to you the first day we met?” The horse shook his head. “ Why do you hang your head, and wander about this solitary fashion?” That's what said to you on that day we
