According to the database Alternatives to Animal testing: “research related to animal and human diseases is responsible for 57% of total animals used” Animals are used as experiments to test Products, medications and cures for diseases. Hartung notes “There are no regulations In basic research forcing scientist to preform animal test.” Animal testing is not required to for basic research. That is to say there are other ways of research without the use of animals, such as in vitro method of testing. In vitro is a different type of testing that takes place in a in a test tube or dish. In vitro is different from animal testing because it does not use any living elements.` According to the US National Research Council their goal is to “try and link chemicals to genes, genes to pathways and pathways to disease. With this method of testing being available in laboratories it should make researchers think twice on using animals as a source to test on. Animal testing is optional due to the fact that there are many different alternatives to research. By animal testing being optional to researchers it shows that some people do not feel as that animal testing is cruel. Scientist utilize animals as their way of researching new things, however in my theory by harming it is only harming our environment more which is a negative aspect of animal usage for …show more content…
Such as the zoo the aquarium, and circus acts. When animals are taken from the wild and placed in captivity they are forced to be trained and raised differently than if they were to be in their natural habitat this can lead to violent behavior of animals that can be problematic for us humans. All animals have a habitat and place where they came from. To take an animal outside of their home where they belong can be problematic for their health and behavior. In H.Hedigers book Wild Animals in Captivity he notes that the change from freedom to captivity is an “abrupt, decisive change.” When animals are being held in captivity they are forced to adapt to a life they aren’t suppose to be in. He also discusses how the captivity of wild animals started many centuries ago for “entertainment, sacred, and scientific purposes”. With that being said when it comes to animal’s society cannot always differeienate on what is cruel and what is not to animals in the environment. In some cases wild animals even become violent when in captivity. In the article are we ignoring neutral and negative human-animal relationships in zoos Hosey claims “It is also possible that natural predatory instincts are suppressed through learning in the zoo environment, but can re-assert themselves if the learned barriers are suddenly removed.” Wild Animals have predotary instincts that can be dangerous and even deadly to humans.
