Explain Why I Want To Be A Phlebotomacist
To understand why I want to be a phlebotomist, you would have to know how I got to this point. I have worked five years in pharmacy. Though I love my profession, there is no room to grow in pharmaceuticals. I want a career to advance in successfully. I have a passion for helping those in need and building relationships with my peers. I am ready to take the next step in supporting my family and doing something to make them proud. I started working in pharmacy at nineteen years old. At that point, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as far as a career. I started out in the production area of the pharmacy filling hundreds of medications a day a long with customer service. Two years later, after my son was born premature with some health issues, full-time work or school was not an option. I started at another pharmaceutical company after my son turned a year old. I worked in the data entry department for one year. I soon realized everyone was sitting in the same desk they started out in. How was I going to get out of that desk? After I had my daughter, post partum fell upon me quickly as I returned to work. I resigned from my position and took a few months off to recover and started looking for work months after. I soon found that phlebotomy was the …show more content…

I will never forget some of my most beloved patients who fell ill and quickly passed. Having experience in behavioral health, you really have to have a patient and understanding heart. I found myself building relationship with nurses and patients daily. I assisted with the patient assistance program at Southern Pharmaceuticals that helped homeless or uninsured mentally ill patients receive medication. I am hoping with a career in phlebotomy I can be hands on in blood drives or help find answers to medical issues. A phlebotomist may not be the most loved person in the medical field, but they are definitely one of the most

As I grew up, she also brought me to work with her and I befriended the majority of her coworkers and I specifically remember one named Donna. She and I used to talk and go room to room to see her patients. There I learned what to do and how to talk to patients as well as how to help them recover. I’d ask them questions about their current state of health even though I knew nothing about the human body. I always loved observing all of the nurses and their day-to-day work. Examining the interactions between nurses and patients, or even nurses themselves, had piqued my curiosity because I was astounded by how close the relationships were. This has since developed into a passion leading to a career goal.…

I spent the end of May and beginning of June applying for any activity job or volunteer opportunity that held my interest. I spent hours preparing for interviews, writing lengthy letters and internally panicking at every ring of the phone. in June I started my first job at the Hebron Carnival, and I could not have been more excited. I promised myself that I would work my hardest to make the carnival a better place than when I arrived. I also was accepted by the volunteer program at Peninsula Regional Medical Center and began work there every Monday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. that was the most educational job I have ever had the pleasure of working at.Also in June I applied to work at Azar Eye Institute and received a position there. I worked there Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7 to 5:30. even after balancing my workload I was informed that I got a job volunteering at the library; which I did Monday and Thursday afternoons, and I also got a job working with children and animals at the Pemberton nature camp. Five jobs for a 15-year-old without a license sounds overwhelming, and it was. However, I loved every minute of it. I liked being part of the team, I liked being relied on by my fellow staff members, and most of all I liked having a…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

The reasons why I want to be a PA is that it is a profession that offers so much flexibility, diversity, and an expansive set of knowledge and skills for an individual that wants to practice medicine without having to go to medical school. As a PA, I would have an extensive choice of specialties I can practice in with the flexibility of working two different specialties simultaneously or switching from one specialty to another without requiring any extra schooling. I grew up with the mindset to learn something about everything. PAs are taught under this generalist principle to have knowledge in almost every discipline of medicine without requiring years of schooling. One of my main aspirations in becoming a PA is to be capable of teaching myself everyday throughout my entire life.…

I love to learn because I want to provide the most competent care that I can, and because of my mere fascination with medicine. Recently, I was a preceptor for a student nurse. He was the husband of a patient I had taken care of a few times. The first time was during a miscarriage, this was a devastating end to their many fertility treatments. We all spent hours talking and crying through this hospital stay. The next time I took care of them was a much happier visit; she was in labor. Everything was going wonderfully until there was a drop in the fetal heart rate. Upon examination, I discovered that there was a prolapsed cord. Feeling the incredibly slow pulse of the cord on my hand during the entire cesarean section was one of the scariest moments of my life. The outcome was great. They had a thriving baby boy. Five years later, his father is almost done with nursing school, and he was telling me that I am one of the reasons he is becoming a nurse. This was a pivotal moment in my career; it was when I realized the immensity in which I can impact lives. I want to continue to do this, and as a Nurse Practitioner I will dedicate my life to helping those in…

Throughout the past year I have endured several life changing occurances. One of my family members troubled through the treturous stages of cancer and unfortunately has passed at this time. As much as I wished everything would resolve itself, sometimes life needs a catalyst. I tried my hardest to get a job but to no avail, I was left with nothing but blunt denials due to my age. I realized we were dealt a bad hand but I also knew that somebody out there had it worse than us. Later in December I received a call from my local Walgreens and got to work in the front end of the store. Without hesitation I accepted the minimum wage opening and began to realize the reasoning behind my Mom's worries about work. She wanted me to study full-time and not be bothered by the dilemmas that came with work. Soon enough my life was revolving around 40 hours work weeks, which sometimes went to 50 near holidays. My everyday routine consisted of 2 AM closings and 8 AM chemistry classes. My life became more about surviving rather than actually living some of the best years of my life. Before I knew it, I had gotten my first failing grade of a D in general chemistry 2 and would have to expend all the money I ever earned on summer classes. That move took a lot out of me as I learned a very valuable , literally, lesson about…

As a High School graduate in 2003, I focused on making money full-time and furthering my education part-time. At age 20, I became a single mother. A few years later, I had my second child. I continued to pursue my education off and on over the years. I was focused on getting my Associate’s in Business. In 2009 I attended a 10 month program that certified me as a Medical Assistant.
