Why Vegan is The Right Choice

The definition for vegan in the dictionary is “a person who refrains from using any animal products whatever for food, clothing, or any other purpose.” Choosing this may be considered a lifestyle choice or, for some, just a diet to lose some weight. Because most vegans choose this lifestyle for the compassion of animals, a lot of them, or just people in general, believe that if you are choosing it to only lose weight, then you are not actually vegan, just someone choosing a very specific diet. It is not very often that you meet a vegan, and according to medicalnewstoday.com only 0.2 percent to 1.3 percent of the United States are vegan and only 0.25 and 0.4 of the United Kingdom are vegan. So as you can see, there are many health factors that may be helpful to someone who is choosing this lifestyle. Spryliving.com gave research that says that going vegan reduces the risk of colon cancer, avoiding or reversing heart disease, any type of kidney disease can be reduced, constipation is decreased, or if you would like to make a dramatic change to your diet. From my experience, there are a lot of people that confuse being vegan with being vegetarian. Being a vegetarian only means not consuming any type of animal meat, they can consume dairy, eggs, honey, and can also wear clothing made from animals, whereas vegans can not do any of that. Comparing the two, you will quickly learn that being vegan is far better than being vegetarian. Health wise, a vegan diet is much better for you. Vegetarians are still able to consume dairy, which contain dietary cholesterol, whereas having a vegan diet normally does not have any cholesterol problems. A vegan diet is good for the heart (3fatchicks.com).     My passionate love and care for the environment and animals gives me the satisfaction that I am helping the planet and its inhabitants. It also gives me the opportunity to experiment with vegan alternatives to eggs, such as chickpea brine. From these vegan culinary experiments, I learn more about baking, and what makes baked goods rise and stay moist. It would not be an exaggeration to say that being a vegan makes me more empathic because it constantly reminds of the harsh cruelty animals face every day. Being a vegan means that I acknowledge that animal cruelty exists and that I want to end it. There is a joke that says “An Atheist, a Vegan and cross fitter walk into a bar….. I only know because they told everyone within two minutes.” I can confirm that veganism such a huge part of my identity that it's one of the first things I mention about myself when I introduce myself to people. It usually helps spark up conversations that often lead to arguments about, animal cruelty, and the meat and dairy industry. I like to argue so, I think that being a vegan allows me to have interesting arguments and conversations with people that I would never have if I weren't a vegan. But being a vegan comes with negative consequences as well. For one thing, I try not to go to food-related events because I hate having to ask if the dishes there are vegan since I don’t like to put pressure on people. It usually turns out that most of the food isn’t vegan so I end up eating salad anyways. I once went to a bar mitzvah and all I had to eat was a tasteless salad. I hated it.
