How Significant Experiences Affect My Life
Significant experiences affect our lives both at that moment, and for the rest of our lives. We must choose to let these experiences affect us for the better, allowing them to shape us into who we are meant to become. When we accomplish something hard or something that not many people have done, we can use this rare experience to learn lessons and skills that will guide us in the future. Something that I have had the opportunity to do was earn my Eagle Scout Award through the Boy Scouts of America.
This was a significant achievement because it helped me learn so much about myself, discover talents I have, and hone skills that I will use for the rest of my life. Many boys, both today and in the past, have been members of the Boy Scouts of America. Only two percent of those

The most obvious skill that I emerged with was my new-found leadership capabilities. I have since gone on to expand this talent and lead many of my fellow students in various sports, school activities, and within my Boy Scout troop as well. Another skill that I attained was the skill of proper goal setting. I have found, that the secret to goal setting is to come up with a list of steps to get there, and then actually carry out those steps. By breaking things up, accomplishing your goals can be much easier. The last big impact I feel this award has had on me was the discovery of my attention to detail. Being a detail oriented planner is something I have since used in my life to accomplish both everyday tasks, and bigger projects.
The honor of receiving my Eagle Scout award has been one of the greatest things I have done in my life. The impact it has had on me, big and small, has helped to shape me into the person I am today. Hardworking, detail oriented, responsible, respectful and having the natural gift of leading are just a few traits and skills that I had the opportunity to cultivate on my journey to earning my Eagle Scout

Every year the camp brought in a great group of girls. Having been chosen for officer positions and a starguider among those girls truly made it an honor. I value being highly regarded for my leadership in a place I love so much. Every year as I returned home from camp I tried to keep the same mind set as I had there, one of leadership. This is when I discovered that I did not need a title to be a leader. I could be a leader in everyday life by my…

It was an amazing feeling to give to the community in that way. I was selected as the master of ceremony for our yearly Veterans Day Assembly this year also. It was an honor to be able to lead the assembly and make sure that the veterans were honored for their true acts of bravery. Also through National Honor Society, I planned a Red Out at a basketball game, a Cardiac Ball, and a 3-on-3 tournament in order to spread awareness and collect donations for the American Heart Association. We ended up raising 2,000 dollars for such a great cause!…

I was awarded a wonderful education at Windham High School, but beyond the information I retained, I also learned what is important in life. At first, I thought all that mattered was the clothes you wore, what makeup you had on, and who you were friends with. There is more to life than all that. I love helping others and my induction into the National Honor Society allowed me to do just that, especially in my four service projects I had the opportunity to lead and be a part of. I try to please people and make sure they are always happy and I now know it is most important to give back to the community who gave me so much.…

One of my most defining experiences to date has been my involvement with the colorguard squad at my school. The colorguard squad is an auxiliary unit that is part of the marching band. We perform with the band at Friday night football games during halftime while spinning flags and rifles to the music. To me, colorguard is so much more than that. Freshman year when I went to tryouts I was terrified. I did not have any friends trying out with me; I was walking into a gym full of older girls whom I had never met. To my surprise, being on the squad for the past three years has been such a defining achievement during high school for me. Without the squad I would have had a completely different experience in school. I learned the value of hard work…

Those being, having the opportunity to play varsity shortstop in high school, and having good enough grades to be nominated for, and to be admitted into, the National Honor Society. These accomplishments make me proud because they are goals that I was able to set and accomplish for myself. These are successes that not everyone can say that they have achieved.…

When most people think about a significant experience as something like; studying abroad, taking vacations, or meeting new people. Now while I have met many types of people and traveled quite a bit, none of these experiences have been nearly as significant to me as my childhood. I lived in a small, falling apart, purple house in the heart of Bessemer that was perfect because it is all we could afford. This house and neighborhood forced me to be resourceful and it taught me that nothing in my life is going to come without hard work. Those lessons crafted me into the industrious, diligent, and determined person that I am today.…

The experience that had a big impact on my life is going to medical camp. The medical camp was held at our local hospital. The camp allowed me to tour the hospital and speak to workers in various positions throughout the hospital. To get into the program I had to write an essay and have a GPA of 3.5 or better. At camp I was the youngest and the only African American there. While there it opened up my eyes to many other jobs in the hospital that interested me. Prior to going I wanted to be a Pediatrician, but while attending I found two other professions that interest me. The first profession is Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy is for people who go through surgery or get into an accident and try to relearn activities of daily living…

Throughout the past year I have endured several life changing occurances. One of my family members troubled through the treturous stages of cancer and unfortunately has passed at this time. If I have taken anything away from this, it is that family is the most important resource in a persons life. Without those people who tell you that you can, regardless of the circumstances, becoming succesful could be very challenging. After clearing my head, I was able to start thinking of a career choice that would make me enjoy going to work. I encountered an opening at a local CVS/Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician and applied. After being hired, I immediately fell in love with the surroundings, the people, the patient interaction, and the knowledge…
