In my experience, we offer parents a copy of the procedural safeguards when; 1) a parent brings their child in for an evaluation, 2) at annual IEP meetings. We also offer parents a copy in their native language (if available). Often times parents will refuse additional copies after they receive their initial.…

Bradford, I really enjoyed your post as we share the same ideas and seem to have the same experiences with multiple supervisors. I liked how you stated up front that unity of command and unity of direction mean different things and not should not be confused with each other. To me, unity of command is the most important because unity of direction cannot exist without it, especially in criminal justice. Like you said, each officer should only have one direct supervisor that is ultimately responsible for him or her because confusion can arise if there are more than one. I saw this recently at my agency and it really affects the newer officers if the problem is not corrected. I also saw how unity of direction can really work when one…
That was another week went by at Sherwood Park Manor. As usual, I started my shift by listening to the morning report and then heading to my assign resident room. I started morning care by providing the care of my assigned resident, including taking her vital signs. After that I directed my resident to sit in the dining for breakfast meal. And once I was done, I went and helped another resident with morning care too, and at last bring him to the dining for breakfast. However, before I head to the dining to help with feeding the resident I checked the room to ensure that everyone was out. While I was checking I found a resident lying in bed and when I asked other personal support worker about her, I was told that she refused to get up for breakfast. I went to her any way to try to convince her to come for breakfast and finally she was able to get up and…
Pre-O helped me transition because it helped me make friends before classes started. While everyone else were attempting to make new friends the students of Pre-O already formed bonds and found friends. It also helped me become familiar with the campus. The rest of the incoming freshmen were struggling during orientation because they didn't have the advantage that we did. They asked us all types of questions such as 'Where is Modlin?', 'What is the quickest way to get back to the dorms?', and so on. All in all, it was just a nice feeling to be able to knowledgeable and not have to struggle with new surroundings.…
First step in creating an IEP is pre-referral identifying that the student has a disability. The teacher or school a school professional may request a referral for the child to evaluate to determine if he/she have a disability to qualify for special education. The important part of IEP stage is to document and explain the child difficulties and challenges they are facing. During this process professional will observe the classroom to make sure that the classroom can accommodate and have modifications for the child, also the professional will look at different types instructional interventions as well as monitoring the student taking notes on they are progressing (Smith,2014). Second step is referral only if the pre-referral was not successful…
To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day.…
IEP is developed by a group of school staffs as wells as the child's parent. The team meets and evaluates the child with various assessments as well as designs an educational program to help the child learn better in a educational environment depending on his or her disability. “There are strict legal requirements about who participates. An IEP is created by an IEP team that must include, the child’s parent, at least one special education teacher. School psychologist or other specialist who can interpret evaluation results”. A district representative with authority over special education services”.(2011 what is the difference between IFSP and an IEP?) When the school decides they want to change the learning program for a child they have to contact a parent. They have to tell parents in writing before they change the learning plan. This is called “prior written notice”. Notice is a requirement of IEP terms and conditions. Parents also have “stay put” rights to keep services in place while there's a…
I received a 2.88 out of 3 on the Capstone Project. . In completing the Capstone Project I was able to demonstrate my comprehension of InTASC Standard Eight. Due to the fact that every student is different, it is crucial to identify a student’s individual needs and find strategies that would help this particular student. For the Capstone project, I was tasked with finding five need-based strategies to help an ELL with his reading. My student particularly struggled with vocabulary. I was able to use cognates as an aide to show him how English and Spanish have similar spelling and pronunciations. This worked well for him because he already had an extensive Spanish vocabulary that needed to be extended tot English. However, since no student is…
The purpose of the Reflective Report is to foster an ability to reflect on their experience and consider ways in which their developing understanding of the theory, which underpins practice, can help them to develop an attitude of critical awareness of their own actions, values, motives etc, and also to the actions, values and motivations of others that they work with. Students complete a weekly reflective report during level 1, and a fortnightly reflective report during levels 2 and 3. A form is provided for this purpose, which can be found in the Practice Handbook or on the website (www.baywat.weebly.com) along with guidelines about how to complete this for each stage of the course. However, the following points should be noted with regard to reflective reports for all levels; • • • Reflective reports are submitted by email to tutors by 4.00pm on the Friday they are due. Late submissions will be counted as a fail. They are graded using the practice CAS scale. There is no specific word count associated with reflective reports but, as a guide, level 1 should cover 2 sides of A4, while levels 2 and 3 will probably require a further side in order to provide adequate evidence of reflective activity. However, quality is more important than quantity, and the main content of each Reflective paper should be within the ‘Reflective Comments’ section. In order to attain professional accreditation, at Level 3 all students must meet JNC Level 2 requirements (CAS 12 or above) for all their reflective reports. Students who do not meet these requirements but do pass (CAS 9 -11) can still graduate without JNC professional accreditation. No more than 5 reflective reports can be failed in any semester, or the practice will be counted as having failed for that semester. Students are permitted to resubmit each reflective recording once in order to meet the appropriate standard. Normally, practice would be made up during the summer, but students…
