The author of this essay proved many useful points in regards to the Western Diet. In order for people to change their nutrition many things have to change as well, but is it too late? Almost every food we buy and put in our mouths is full extra additives and hormones. How whole is our food really? Comparing Americans diet to other countries proves that a healthy lifestyle with better nutrition is possible. Are the people that benefit from the consequences like doctors who treat patients with heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes or pharmaceutical companies willing to give up everything that bring in revenue? I think we know what the
answer is. Greed is a powerful ingredient in this epidemic. Pollan has some very good points. There were more questions made then there were answers. Yes, eating fresh fruit and vegetables sounds like a great idea, but making changes in someone’s diet requires extra steps and nowadays people want to come home and relax after a long hard day at work. Those extra steps might be too much to ask for. People don’t want long scientific explanations about nutrients or fatty acids, explanations like these will make them put this article down in the blink of an eye. Nutrition is a thing right now, but honestly when I go out and pass those fast food restaurants those lines aren’t getting any shorter and McDonalds aren’t going out of business. Everything is business as usual. This country needs more than scientific explanations or political speeches about food to make a any type of dent in our problem with obesity. America is in big trouble and it doesn’t even know it.
