When a song is as heavily covered as Fats Domino’s “Ain’t That A Shame” from his album Rock and Rollin with Fats Domino you know that there is something special about it. With recording artists such as Pat Boone, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and even the 1970s rock group, Cheap Trick recording the song many people know at least one version. However the original version has a special something about it that helps it stand out from the many covers. The song has an enticing hook, interesting historical context, and is an earworm that was with me for several days after I first heard the song.…

Problems between composers and the general public have been mounting for over one hundred years. As advanced music rapidly changes, the public seemingly fails to posses the musical knowledge necessary to appreciate modern works of contemporary music. In 1958, Milton Babbitt examined this relationship in a piece entitled “Who Cares if You Listen?” In the article, Babbitt asses the public’s feelings on “advanced” music and concludes that it should not concern composers if their work doesn’t get an audience beyond a few colleagues. Musical masterpieces including Babbitt’s Semi Simple Variations and Stockhausen’s Gesang der Jünglinge exemplify why this is the case. Despite efforts to reach out to the public by composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki, the divide that separates these entities is even greater today.…

The item I chose to do was my clarinet as my object and the Cittern as my object from The Met. I have chosen these two objects, because they have a lot in common as they are both musical instruments. The cittern was made roughly in 1685 made by German man, Joachim Tielke. The material used to make this was cypress, ivory, ebony, parchment, and brass. The cittern is 24 ⅞ in by 9 5/16 in. Also, this was made in Hamburg, Germany, so it is a german instrument. This was used to play music during church services and ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. But a lot of aristocrats played this, and then become more popular between the sixteenth and seventeenth century. It is mainly a folk instrument, which why it was then created into what we call…

Austria , as part of the Austro Hungarian Empire during the First World War also suffered economic and territorial deprivation for being on the losing…
Music is a big part of people’s lives and it can be accessed so easily. People can hear music anywhere they go on their phones. Many people like to listen to music whenever they are doing other tasks. Others feel that the music distracts them from the work they are performing. In my opinion, I do not like listening to music when I am working on certain tasks that require thinking or concentration because do not concentration. I love listening to music in my free time. If there is music on while I am doing a task, then I am more likely to be paying attention to the music than concentrating on the task. When I listen to music, I like to pay attention to the lyrics even though I already know them word by word. Don’t you want to find out whether…
From my early childhood, all the way until now and I am sure to the future and beyond I have been fascinated by music. I have loved to listening to, playing, singing, and writing music as well. I can vividly remember when I was very young in our family room we had a stereo and my family and I would dance and play along to music. I specifically remember The Beatles and The Eagles. I had a small plastic snare drum that I use to use until sadly I stepped on it. Both of my Uncles played music and were in a band themselves. My Uncle Ed was a drummer and my Uncle Ronnie was a guitarist and a singer. I remember going to concerts for their band a t a young age as well.…
Mia Hall, who is one of the most important main characters, is seventeen years old, plays the cello, and is mostly a quiet person. Mia loves classical music and practiced on her cello whenever she had the chance. Mia’s parents and her eight year old brother Teddy are also main characters in the story. Mia’s father, Denny, was in a band up until her younger brother Teddy was three weeks old. He realized at that point that he didn’t want to be like that anymore and needed to change for his family. Denny went back to grad school to become a teacher and changed the way he dressed completely, from “rocker” to “old school sophisticated”. He began wearing suits and ties and Mia hated this change. Mia’s mother, Kat, is very protective of others, very loyal, and has quite a bad mouth. Kat loves rock music and does not approve of Mia’s love for classical music but grows to respect her passion for it. Mia and her mother have a close relationship and Kat always offers her best advice to Mia. Mia’s brother, Teddy, is nine years younger than her. Teddy looks just like his parents, with blonde hair and light eyes, while Mia is the complete opposite with dark hair and dark eyes. He looks up to Mia and she is the only person who can do certain things with Teddy, like read the nest chapter of the Harry Potter books to him before bed. Adam Wilde is Mia’s boyfriend, they have been together for over…
