My Co-Leading Self Reflection
Before this semester, I had not had any experience with co-leading a classroom full of students. This experience has shaped who I am as a leader today. Not only that, but I have grown as a student myself and a mentor to the first-years that I co-led. I have learned more about myself this semester than I have in college previously. This experience has pushed me out of my comfort zone and challenged me to develop a new perspective of how to learn. This experience I have gained through being an Honors Practicum Leader has and will continue to shape my behavior in and out of the classroom with respect to how I will learn. I have been provided with skills that will help me exceed the expectations as a student through this course that I co-led …show more content…
Through this course I have been faced with my greatest strengths and weaknesses through feedback from my students and other practicum leaders. I believe this was crucial in my learning process because in order to grow as a person you need to be self aware of the things that you do well and not so well. This course allowed you to receive constructive criticism to better yourself not only as a student but as a leader too. The suggestions that the students gave allowed me to recognize how others see me in a classroom and utilize this to my advantage. Once I became self aware this semester it allowed me to further my learning on how I can become a better thinker and student all together. Not only this but it has affected my behavior in a classroom. I have become more aware during class lectures and I am able to benefit from this because it has allowed me to adjust my behavior to continue to grow as a …show more content…
This has allowed me to expand my learning because it allows me take responsibility for myself. Throughout this course, I have self-disciplined myself into going above and beyond what has been expected of me. Being able to self-direct myself has given me control over my own learning. It has allowed me to expand on certain aspects of my learning that I know I needed to improve on, like listening to someone completely before inserting my opinion. This semester, I have kept a journal of the class and how it has been going and my own personal growing in this course. These self-assessments and evaluations have provided me with physical evidence on how I needed to improve my learning behavior to make myself a better student. It constantly helped me strive for a new goal each week so I could end this semester being the improved learner that I set out to be at the beginning of the

Throughout this course, there were many concepts in which I feel have opened my eyes about not only how to analyze others, but myself as well. The concept locus of control I found very familiar in my everyday life. I feel like whether I am succeeding at something it is due to myself and if I am unsuccessful at a certain task that as well is due to my performance of set task. This is my way of showing internal locus of control. I feel being this way helps me to be independent and know I can succeed on my own but when I stumble I can take responsibility and learn from my mistakes and grow as a person. This promotes a strong sense of self-efficacy…

A self-employed business man once said, “The best example of leadership is leading by example” (Jerry McClain). He describes a true leader, a pioneer whose morals and selflessness guide her to guide others. She is an inspiration, and a beacon of hope for all to follow. I share this passion for helping and guiding by example, and as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, I would seek to better the community just as I do every day inside and outside of the classroom.…

<I’ve learned so much during this course and have truly grown as a person. I have never really been too open minded. I kind of stick to what I believe and no one can tell me otherwise. My grandma is really the only other person I really believe could tell me something and I would consider what she was saying as being correct. She influenced so much in my life. A lot of my decisions and choices I thought of her first or I would call and ask for her input. Without any extra questions or searching for other possible answers I would believe her almost instantly and go with what she said. During these few weeks I have learned to investigate all possibilities before making a decision so I can make the best one. My pride and my stubbornness also kept me from using critical thinking. Instead of taking the time to really analyze a problem and pick the best way to fix it I just did what I felt was the thing to do. During my time in this course I was taught the necessary steps to take in order to properly solve issues. I plan on utilizing everything I have learned for not only the rest of my academic time with the university of Phoenix , but for the rest of my life in and out of school or work.…

The three most significant things that I learned in this course is one how often we use critical thinking on a daily basis. The second thing this class taught me is the different stages of thinking which I figured out I was practicing thinker which I learned that was I went over the problems instead of jumping right into the problem. The final thing I learned was about fallacies which is something is not as it seems for example, if a commercial says they have tires for $40 and when you get there they say they are sold out already that is just a scheme to get you into the store.…

This classes teaches you how to be successful in college and ways to do that. I've learned so many strategies from the On Course textbook. I was lacking in motivation, so I tried the formula for motivation and found my motivation level to be lower than I would like it to be. My value on my education was a 5. My expectation on my education to be a 5. And my motivation was a 25 which was very low. To improve my score and try to make it increase I set goals using DAPPS which is dating my goals, making them achievable, positive and personal, and specific. I also created my life plan. The life plan made me realize my dreams as a student and what my short term goals were. Setting goals using DAPPS really encouraged me and made me want to accomplish them. Dating my goals made it feel like a challenge and that made me want to go for it more. Achievable made me think that I can do this and that there's no way that I can't. A positive goal was easy for me to think of. Lastley, being specific made me visualize what the outcome of my goal will look like. Using the DAPPS made my motivation…

Everyone aspires to be a leader. No one wants to be the quiet person in the room that sits back, while looking for the guidance of others. The desire to be a leader troubled me greatly in the past, because I wanted to be the one that innovated new ideas. I knew I was a quiet kid, but all of my worst fears were solidified when I learned of my first grade teachers thoughts of me which were “ a follower, not a leader”. I tried to brush it off, and disguise my true feelings, but that is not the way I wanted others to perceive me as in any way. Although it is difficult to replace these preconcieved notions, I have consistently worked to show others what I’m made of. All I needed was the opportunity to prove others that they were wrong. Especially since I like to think that it is the quiet ones we need to look out for.…

Throughout my high school career, I have been given numerous opportunities to lead other students by example, work ethic, volunteerism, and school involvement. I believe that my greatest impact as a leader in high school has been through my participation in a Service Learning Class. This class gave me the chance to help and lead others by tutoring younger students in the middle school and elementary school. As a senior, I felt responsible for providing a voice for the class in ideas and decisions to help better our school. I worked with administrators, teachers, and class members to promote healthy habits of responsibility, school pride, respect, and service.…

Although it may sound naïve, my leadership as a student on campus, and as a woman in general, demonstrates my motivation to pay it forward. I recognize the opportunities I have as a student leader, and those that I hope to have in the future as a professional. Those include leading and mentoring those yet to come. I hope to cultivate a culture of gratitude, and given my background, I hope it is evident that I am anything but naïve. I understand the challenge it may be, better yet, that is what sparks the fire in me that cannot accept anything short of success.…

During the summer before my senior year of high school, I was involved in one of the most influential opportunities I had ever encountered. I was given the chance to volunteer my time at Schneck Medical Center. I chose to volunteer in the rehabilitation department; this helped fuel my desire to want to become a physical therapist. While at the rehabilitation center, I got involved in multiple positions that taught me how to be a better leader and how to successfully use teamwork. Working in the office taught me leadership roles. While in the office, I had to check the patients in for their appointments and paged therapists for their appointments. This position showed me how to take charge and make sure that things in the rehabilitation center…

During this class I have made two self- discoveries that will positively impact my career goals. Those self- discoveries has helped to mold, and shape me into a student that I have never thought I would be. Those discoveries were that I am an organized learner, because I made a study plan to help me determine when, and how I would study. Being that I have five children, I had to make sure that I had set a schedule so that my course work including study time would not affect my family time and take away from spending time with my children and fiance`. Since these are the competing priorities in my life right now learning to obtain trust and consistency in the home while I have been attending school has also improved because not only do I see my success so does my children and fiancé. Knowing that I had that support also has made it possible to do my best in school, setting the pace for them to do the same in school also, whether it be good grades, sports, etc. I know that they will continue to be good at what they do and have proven to do so time after time.…
