Yet, in order for me to attain that admiration, I have had to set goals for myself that involve the desire of receiving straight A’s semester after another, becoming my volleyball’s team captain, and associating with clubs and organizations to create an improvement in my community. Therefore, now that I am a few months from entering college in the fall, I will continue to set goals for myself that will not only benefit me, but that will make my parents proud. By setting these goals in my academics, I will be able to boost my self-esteem and prove myself of everything I am capable of fulfilling. In addition, I will have the ability of showing other college students who are struggling through their academics, that anything can be achievable if only you have the courage of making your struggles possible. I am aware that setting goals like being involved in numerous clubs, pushing myself to strive without surrendering no matter how rigorous my courses may be, and motivating myself to be the first in my family to complete college, will be just the beginning to a new adventure in life that will flourish my academic success. I realize that in Arizona, many fear having to learn a new language because they believe that if it is not learned properly, others will be judgmental about their learning process. For that reason, when I complete my Linguistics career and become an interpreter and translator, I envision breaking the language barriers and proving how the diversity of languages is not a limitation, but rather a motivation to learn from one another and where one comes from. By transmitting how beneficial one is to have the capability of learning multiple languages, I will be viewed as a role model who never gave up on her goals and who encourages others to never give up on their goal of learning a new language just because of others’ opinions or their fear of lack of communication.
