My family has never been wealthy, I have never had the ability to learn easily, and life has never been a piece of cake. However, I strive everyday to improve my knowledge, character, and compassion. I want to make a difference in the lives of others, and I feel I have been equipped with the skills to do so: active listening, empathy, peer mediation, and questioning. Thanks to my involvement in clubs at school, I have bettered my communication skills and ability to work with others. Also, I have learned from the many leadership positions I have held in high school: manager of the Girl’s Basketball team, founding member and devotional leader of First Priority, treasurer and mentoring committee leader of the Peer Helper’s club, secretary of Spanish Club, and treasurer of Spanish Club. These positions have not only increased my leadership abilities, but they have given me responsibility and a role within my school. I have been able to work closely with faculty and other club members to create volunteer opportunities for the entire student body. I enjoy having a role to fill in these clubs as it creates a positive environment for our school, and it gives me goals to strive to and responsibilities to fill. Finally, I have shown incredible determination throughout high school. My freshman year of high school, I was diagnosed with anxiety and chronic migraines. At first, I did not know how to cope with this, and I missed a lot of school. However, as a senior, I have a better idea of what is going on within my body and in my life. I have learned skills that help me cope with changes in my family and my anxieties that follow. This year, my senior year, my mother was disabled and unable to work. I took on extra work to help support my family, but I am proud of my continued involvement in school. Throughout high school, no matter my health or family situations, I
