My Trip To Florida State University
Brown-eyed Boy As I have always been very strong-minded and independent on my own, my weakness was the boy I fell in love with. For I was a girl, track athlete at that, who received multiple offers to schools around the nation. My dreams were to go to Florida State University and run collegiate track at that school; but oh how my plans were changed when I arrived at HBU for an official track recruiting visit. As I laid eyes upon the school, already having thoughts of no return, my weary eyes swept across campus and fell upon a beautiful brown eyed boy. As I may have been a dancer at heart, track was my sport; it was what I knew could pay for my college experience. I am a very competitive girl, so if I was to run for the next five years of …show more content…
He mentioned that he sent athletes there before, it was close to home, and I should give it a shot before committing. Even though my decision was made, I respected my coach’s wishes and made a visit to the school. They had sent me letters as well, so I decided that the trip would not be for nothing. As I arrived on campus, I was already upset with such a short drive; my desire was to live far from home. I met up with Coach T, and she and another athlete showed me around campus. This campus as well was very beautiful and the vibes I received from all the happy faces made me feel at home. However, nothing compared to FSU, my heart was still too deep within that school. As we were walking from the Hinton to the bridge, my eyes fell upon the most endearing sight I have ever seen. My skin went cold, the hairs on my neck stood up, my mouth went dry, and my heart raced as if it were running itself to embrace that beautiful brown eyed boy. I stopped dead in my tracks when his eyes connected with mine, pearly white teeth appeared when he smiled at me, time froze; it was as if it was just me and him in the world. All thoughts about Florida State University melted away as my heart melted for those eyes. HBU no longer sounded like such a bad school after all, not if I got a chance to be with him. I’ve never

College was another story. It was difficult to transition to a new place where no one knew him or what had happened. Mike spoke of his freshman year at SMU saying, “I was just the scrawny kid in the wheelchair.” SMU was his school of choice because it was one of the two schools in Texas that were handicap accessible and because one of his friends offered to live and care with him. While at SMU, he made many friends even joined a fraternity, but he did not feel a sense of community there. He decided to transfer to Baylor during his sophomore year.…

“Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed…

My anxiety flutted around in my chest and gripped each breath like a vice. The daunting and steep steps danced in my mind making the simple task of walking up stairs more difficult than the impossible task to run a mile in a minute. Next, a boy pushed the door open behind him almost as an afterthought, but in my chaotic mind it was the best thing all morning to happen. On the dreadful first day of school, chivalry was not dead, or at least that’s how I was able to comprehend his actions. I glanced around unsurely before starting to slowly walk towards the freshman commons; each eye that meets mine screamed enthusiasm.…

Eastview football is known for its outstanding sports programs, especially its football team. Unfortunately, that does not apply to my class. Our team had put in bone crushing hours in the weight room and on the field since June. There was no doubt in my mind that we wanted to win more than any other team. I wish this story ended with us getting countless wins and making it to state, however, Eastview football lost every single game that year. Even though we did not win a single game, I still refused to give up. I showed up to every single practice, eager to learn, and to make myself better. When I start something, I finish it no matter how hard or how painful it might be. I will bring that same intensity to UW-Eau Claire. There will be countless setbacks in my college career at UW-Eau Claire, but I am going to get through each and every one. My persistence and tenacity will make me thrive in your college, because I will not take the easy way around. I will take each and every painstaking step to see the view from the…

Our Constitution begins with the words, “We the People”, not we the government, or we the wealthy elite, but “We the People”. Our democracy was founded on the basic ideals that everyone should have a say, and that everyone’s opinion matters. This has been the selling point for America for generations, that we are a society of equal opportunity, “The land of the free” as our national anthem states. And yet we aren’t a pure democracy. The people do not enact or vote on laws, they don’t have a say in how the government spends its money. Instead we elect people to do this for us, we are a representative democracy, a republic. This system is efficient, and has kept our nation going for its period of existence, but it has its flaws. One of the largest…

The day I left for ASU was in 9th May. I was so excited because I could start my college life. The flight to Arizona was at 4:15 pm. I woke up at 8 am to pick up all my stuff to my luggage and call a car to take me to the airport. After two hours later, my parents, they woke up and prepared the dinner for me. The food were very delicious. The car arrives at 1:00 pm. I arrived at airport at 1:45 pm. The airliner took off on time. In the meantime, I carried the fear of unknown further because everything was unpredictable. How is the ASU? How is the class? How is my dorm room? How is my room? How is class? All the thing about the collage could not stop running through my brain. After 16 hours, I finally arrive at AZ. The first feeling when I…

Auburn is a small town with a major university, which lives up to its name of “The Loveliest Village on the Plains.” Growing up in a small community with a big, active high school is similar to Auburn in that Auburn is a small town with a big university. The idea of going to college in an atmosphere similar to where I grew up comforts me. After a major win against Ole Miss my family and I followed the massive crowd to Toomer’s Corner to roll the oak trees. We watched a young boy skate through crowds of people on his scooter. My cousin Candis said, “You know Auburn is a safe place when you can let your son skate around on his scooter after major a SEC win.” Watching the young boy made me realize how safe I truly feel at Auburn, and how important that is for me living away from home.…

Despite my feelings of accomplishment for finishing my search, there was still one thing left to do: apply. This was the moment of truth. Did I want to attend this school or not? I made a mental checklist of things I’d learned; it has fantastic people, a great engineering curriculum, and sports and clubs that fit my tastes. Beyond all of that, it was Marquette University, a rigorous faith-based community that seemed to beckon to me whenever possible. The choice was clear. I finally knew where I wanted to go, and it was Marquette…

Going into my senior year I still had the idea of, I can make it into a Florida school, I wanted to go to a Florida school to play baseball. So my senior year starting the baseball season with a new coach, I made my mind up, I’m going to work hard to stay in Florida and change my coaches mind. Through my senior year I was by far the best pitcher my ERA was under 1, I had 27 pick- offs in just one year. Also this year I was interviewed for being the hot shot of the week, an article in the newspaper. I was nominated for picking off 7 base runners in one game. I learned my pick off move from my coach in middle school before I knew my summer league coach. So I was still working with my summer league coach every once in a while at this point, but…

One day, while I was laying peacefully on my bed, my mother came in with a letter from Florida A&M University. I didn't really want to speculate anything because a few days before I received a letter from another college saying that I wasn't accepted. Nevertheless I was still excited when I opened it and even more so when I read that I had been accepted. So without much hesitation I packed up and headed to Tallahassee. When I arrived my mother and I took care of registration and a plethora of things you have to manage as a new student. After all the hassles of college registration were completed my mother departed for home and I was left by myself to attend college. What a great feeling! Little did I know what I had on store for the next day, my first in college.…

The event that I choose to follow summer fest was a simple and casual visit to the wellness and recreational center, fancy way of saying the gym. Upon my first ever visit to Florida International University I still remember at our freshmen orientation entering the gym and thinking to myself this seems like a place that I will be visiting often during my four year tenure at school. And boy was I right, the facility was clean and professional looking very much like a professional gym would appear, the staff where all kind and ready to assist you if help was ever necessary, something that I truly valued. I was extremely exited to take a spinning class at the FIU gym, I had only ever heard positive reviews and I was looking forward to the experience as well. Personally I am obsessed with fitness so any class, or activity is something that I love to experience which is what drove me to experience the class myself, and did, I love it. When I got out of that class I was sweating so much, I felt like I had gone on a run around the world and it so amazing, the instructor knew exactly what she was doing and had no problem helping you out if you needed it, the music was fun and exiting extremely up tempo. Overall I can only rave about the experience, it was positive and motivational. It has truly inspired me to no matter how stressed I may be I can always go down to the gym and relieve my stress while gaining a benefit as well.…

The summer of 2016, I organized a venturesome trip for my dad and I to share in the Florida Keys during the weekend of our birthdays. Our trip was scheduled for the end of July, which happened to be the hottest and the most chaotic time to go because of lobster season. As a Floridian, I have traveled to many destinations throughout Florida; but never before have I gone as far south as the keys. Recalling the first time I visited the Florida Keys is one of my fondest memories.…

During my first year I mainly did relays so my nerves would stay down. Relays allow your win or loss to fall back on a team of people rather than just yourself. Yes, If you are in an individual event you still have your team cheering you on, and supporting you like any other sport.…
