Describe the duties and responsibilities of own role

There are many roles which a nursery assistant has when working in a childcare setting. The first is to help plan the curriculum. This includes planning for your own group; in order to do this effectively you must use learning stories to help plan, also it is vital that I use my knowledge of the child so that what they are learning is applicable to them.
As a nursery assistant, I must also be prepared to be led by my manager and to take instruction from those in a higher position of authority than myself. They will be asking me to help set up for the day’s activities, prepare healthy snacks, tidy up and to clean.
If I am the keyworker for a group, I must ensure that a good liaison is kept between the nursery and the parents to ensure that the child’s needs are successfully recognised and met. One way to do this effectively is to have a homelink book which is a means of sending messages between practitioner and parent to inform what we have done at nursery that day. I must also, as a group keyworker, teach the children whilst offering an appropriate level of support to each individual child.
I am required to attend staff meetings; this is where I can voice any concerns I have regarding the children, parents or safety of the children whilst ensuring that any confidentiality is preserved where necessary.
