In 1946 the late Truett Cathy opened the Dwarf Grill, later renamed the Dwarf House, with a menu based on hamburgers and milkshakes. Truett spent 4 years perfecting his chicken sandwich recipe, using cooking techniques he learned from his mother. His chicken sandwiches quickly began to outsell hamburgers. The term “Chick-fil-A” was patented in 1963, abbreviating the words chicken and fillet and using a capital “A” to represent the concept of being the best. Over the years they’ve expanded their menu to various options to include, chicken nuggets, salads, chargrilled chicken, chicken strips and wraps. In 1995, Chick-fil-A successfully launched their Cow Campaign, utilizing cows to sell chicken, in the now famous Eat Mor Chikn campaign. Largely successful in its expansion Chick-fil-A locations include catering, college campuses, airports, malls, stadiums, free-standing restaurants, drive-thru only and, lunch counters. Including specialty restaurants including Truett’s Luau specializing in chicken with a Hawaiian twist, Truett’s Grill, a 50’s diner theme and still to this day the beginning of Chick-fil-A, the Dwarf House.
Seventy years later, Chick-fil-A is still privately owned and family operated, with its corporate headquarters located in Atlanta, Ga. On June 1st of this year, Chick-fil-A launched the new CFA One app, and it quickly landed the number one spot on the iTunes app store a few hours after its release. The revised app was in response to a survey commissioned by Chick-fil-A. Results from the survey showed 82% of millennial parents preferred to avoid long lines while they were with children and also reported 48% of all surveyed would skip eating if it required them to stand in line.
