(They labeled the slaves Contraband and freed them in the Union.) In 1862 we allow black people into our military to help fight with us. In 1862 we win the battle of Shiloh/Pittsburgh Landing. However then we lose through the rest of 1862. This war was brutal though. We have never suffered this much causalities up to this point in history during battle. While the Union's economy was flourishing, the Confederacies economy was sinking. The North had six times the amount of manufacturing than the South. We created greenbacks/ dollar bills. The North had established The U.S. Sanitary Commission where they would work a mans job while they were off fighting. A woman by the name of Harriet Tubman became a spy for the Union and she also snuck black slaves to their freedom. Since there wasn't many people in the Union jumping to sign up for the war we create the enrollment act in 1863, where you get put in a drawing to see who gets drafted. (You could either pay $300 and get out of it or you could find someone to take your place.) This caused riots. There was a group called the copperheads who wanted to to just end the war and make the South independent. The South follows our drafting plan in 1862, they call it The Conscription Act. However their rules were you could buy your way out or if you own 20+ slaves you wouldn't even be put in the drawing at all. The Union conquered the Souths main food providers. In 1863, we have the battle of Gettysburg. It lasts three days and we win, but suffer a lot of Casualties. We go on to win the battle of Vicksburg in 1863. It was the last confederate stronghold along the Mississippi River.
