Why Community Service Is Important
Do you feel community service is important to a community? Why or why not? Explain your answer in two or three paragraphs.
Community Service is important for many reasons. Taking part and volunteering teaches compassion and understanding. One of my favorite things about community service is that there are opportunities and choices everywhere! You can volunteer for something you really believe and have an interest in, and can volunteer as much or as little as you 'd like or have time for.
Since I was young I have always volunteered for my Catholic Youth Group. At first I didn 't know many people there and wasn 't very enthusiastic. Later, as I got to know the other kids and starting pushing myself to join in the activities, I learned to enjoy and relish my time there. Some activities we did was decorating the nursing home for Christmas, singing carols, writing letters to the residents, and just sitting there visiting and listening to what they had to share. I have realized how important the elderly are to our society and I truly appreciate the advice they gave me. It was a very rewarding experience and I got to do many things I wouldn 't have had an opportunity to do otherwise.
As I move through life I think I will always be involved in community service. Not just because I think it is important but because it is something I enjoy and look forward to. I love bringing joy and through community service I feel I can accomplish that.
If this scholarship application is to be evaluated based on financial need, explain how plan to pay for your college expenses.
I plan on paying for college through student loans and hopefully through scholarships I receive. I am a part of a large family – eight children- with a limited income. I live on a family ranch 40 miles out of town and my parents don’t have the income to pay me or pay my gas to drive into town to get a job. I was afraid that attending a university would be out of my financial reach. I was not even sure where

I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…

Volunteering has always been an important aspect of my life. Whether donating food or painting a house, it has allowed me to be extremely grateful and humble for my lifestyle because everybody is not as blessed as I am. Volunteering has taught me that even the smallest gift, such as a smile, can be a great gift to someone because it can show that you care and want to be involved. It has allowed me to develop soft skills, and learn more about myself and my HBCU community. One of my greatest accomplishment in life was that I volunteered 1,000 hours in high school.…

I volunteer in my community whenever I get the opportunity. For example, I helped students get to school safely and I helped out around the school. I volunteered at the public library to help younger children. I now see it is hard work to get children focused and help them not make a big mess, but I enjoyed helping them in any way I can. Volunteering at the public library also taught me about patience. Not everything went exactly how I planned it out, but at the end it still worked out. My time at the library also taught me about effort.…

Should the United States require all adults to perform one year of community service by the age of 30? I personally think this is a topic that is not at all, relevant. I believe if someone wants to lend a helping hand, then they should lend a helping hand. If you don't prefer to do this kind of community service, the government shouldn't force you to do so. There would be a lot of change in how community service is done today if the government required at least one year to be served by the age of 30.…

I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…

Service to the Church is an important aspect of our Church life. We should all do this, as God calls us to do so. However, we shouldn’t limit ourselves to the Church. We should also serve the community, to be a good citizen of our country. Serving the community is also serving the Church because Jesus states we must treat others as we want to be treated. Serving the Church and community teaches moral values that are important to life.…
