Over time, America began to favor the Allied Powers over the Central Powers because of three main reasons: their ties to Great Britain, the Zimmerman Telegram, and the practice of unrestricted submarine warfare. This type of naval warfare was used on Lusitania, a British luxury liner which carried passengers along with goods. This third political cartoon demonstrates America’s 28th President, Woodrow Wilson, making his decision to lead his nation into a war which was halfway across the world after the sinking of American ships using unrestricted submarine warfare enraged him and many American civilians.
