Why Did World War 1 Start
The Great War lasted from June, 1914 - November, 1918. Many countries that participated in the Great War were imperialists, and there were many reasons why the war started in the first place. One reason was because there were multiple pieces of evidence showing the small nation, Serbia, gave the assassinator the weapons to kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was the archduke of Austria-Hungary and the heir to the throne. His assassination triggered the outbreak of World War I.
This first political cartoon portrays the alliance system; the alliance system was only one part to the M.A.I.N. causes of World War I, where ‘M’ stood for militarism (a rise in military expenditure, an increase in military and naval forces, and a preference for force as a solution to problems), ‘A’ for alliance system (an agreement between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interests), ‘I’ for imperialism (empire building - exert political, economic, and sometimes

Over time, America began to favor the Allied Powers over the Central Powers because of three main reasons: their ties to Great Britain, the Zimmerman Telegram, and the practice of unrestricted submarine warfare. This type of naval warfare was used on Lusitania, a British luxury liner which carried passengers along with goods. This third political cartoon demonstrates America’s 28th President, Woodrow Wilson, making his decision to lead his nation into a war which was halfway across the world after the sinking of American ships using unrestricted submarine warfare enraged him and many American civilians. At the same time, due to political or religious purposes, many pacifists opposed the war. When the American soldiers did go to war, they fought on the Western Front. The Western Front was the line of trenches which stretched from the English channel across French and Bulgarian
