Christmas Eve we put up our Christmas tree, but we did get to put the decorations on…
Families fill the Christmas tree with ornaments, candy canes and tinsel. Decorating an evergreen fir tree has been a tradition for approximately a thousand years. Pagans used the branches to decorate their homes during the winter solstice, making them think of the spring to come. Majority of houses during the Christmas season are decorated with lights. Some families host Christmas light shows. They have millions of lights synchronized with music and have dancing Santas. The best way to enjoy decorating is with Christmas carols. Few people go door to door caroling for others. Early christians caroled to show praise and…
Lastly, others may disagree with my opinions because they would want the christmas spirit to last longer or because it would be more cheaper to buy in those “hectic” stores. According to Heather steveson she replies “I always put my christmas decorations up because my kids & I really enjoy having them up & because it saves the time going through our shed looking to look for them then lilke a week later we would have to take them down.” Due to this reason a lot of people do it.…
Christmas brings out a certain joy in me. Seeing the same enthusiasm in others makes me realize how wonderful the season is. Hearing the songs that can brighten anyone’s day, and smelling fresh cookies straight out of the oven is just a bonus to the already perfect holiday. Christmas 2015 here I…
Is not giving children in school recess hurting them? The answer is yes! There are so many good things that can come out of giving kids of all ages breaks or recess. The main 3 reasons are that not giving them a break for awhile can give them a brain overload. The next is that the country’s with the kids of the highest test scores have breaks very often, the last one is that it can help kids become healthy and get exercise in.…
Halloween arrived and our Huskies did all kinds of different things on the spooky holiday. Many high school kids were discouraged to go out and have fun with crazy costumes since lately it is commonly mention that there is an age limit for trick or treating. Many people argue that high school students shouldn’t go trick or treating anymore since candy is mainly bought for little and young kids. Many students also believe that we are too old for it as well, but is this true? Well, true or not many Huskies left the comments and restrictions aside and enjoyed their Halloween at its most. From flashy to basic, there were all kinds of costumes all around the streets. The people who were just walking around, also had a good time just looking at the…
Theatre, plays, shows, movies – those are the things people think of when they hear the word "actor". For a high school theatre student, however, they see "budget", "time", and "reuse". These are things athletes don't have to worry about, because a majority of the equipment and outfits are purchased by the high school. It doesn't cost much to make a high-quality theatre set as long as you have the right people, so why not fund it?…
Years ago, Christmas used to be just right. There was more focus on the meaning and reason than presents and trees. Thanks to new technology and the greed for green, slowly the holiday evolved to more of a commercialized Christmas. People started waking up at the crack of dawn or staying up late to get deals that are supposedly worth it. Today, people are even skipping occasions like thanksgiving to get that certain price on a holiday gift. Before I try to convince you on how Christmas is so over commercialized, let me give you some examples. Usually around the holiday season, commercials air 24/7, showcasing electronics, cars, and other “necessary” items of the holiday. Rarely will you find commercials showing what the holiday is supposed to be about. Another example of over commercialization is through the holiday movies. You see all these flicks supposedly on the meaning of the season yet they all have themes like,” is Santa Claus real?” or, “will they fall in love by Christmas?” Sure all of these are good for entertainment but do they really portray the real meaning of Christmas? Christmas is supposed to be a time of thanking, remembering, and giving. So then why…
Whether you're in elementary or in high school, every school needs a recess period. Students work hard throughout the day, and deserve a break. They hardly ever get one. Taking a little time for exercise, or a card game will diminish the stress when it comes to work. It does have a big impact on students.…
Out of all the school dances here at Sir John A Macdonald, there is only one missing; that’s the Valentine’s Day Dance. Our school celebrates just about every holiday; however we think that Valentine’s Day is one of the best dances to have at junior high schools. We feel that having Valentine’s Day dance will have more students interested in coming to more dances, and on the plus side we will have more money donated for our school. This topic should be asked upon SJAM students because we feel that our dances are too over rated, and get boring and boring every time. Anyway majority of teens in junior high have or are in a relationship, so why not spark up the mood and have a loving dance for couples to enjoy?…

We have arrived at the time of the year with many traditions: December. For decades, we have celebrated Christmas with our family and in church. We think about the poor and care about others, just for once. We celebrate New Year’s Eve with friends and food, and we spend huge amounts of money on fireworks. All of these traditions are, of course, great. But don’t you think we need to change some of our traditions? We have been celebrating events in the same way for decades, so we definitely need to make some important changes.…

While there is no denying that festive cheer is very much in the air, the traditions that at one time were revered have been diluted to a large extent. The overpowering presence of Western influence has resulted in the younger generation being less inclined to cleave to traditional practices.…
