The issue of animal experimentation is the subject of many debates within the scientific community. It is my firm belief that any form of animal experimentation is morally wrong and tantamount to murder or torture. Scientists perform experiments on animals in a bid to test the safety other products and to develop new drugs for treating a wide range of diseases. In most cases, the experiments cause a lot of pain to the animals used as subjects, often significantly reducing the quality of their lives in many ways. If causing suffering to animals is morally wrong, then experimenting on them is a more serious offence because it causes serious moral problems. Scientists who experiment with animals clearly understand animal experimentation produces ethical concerns and admit …show more content…
More significantly, they acknowledge the fact that it is wrong and unethical to use animals in the experiments if alternative methods of testing would provide equally compelling results. Scientists use animal experiments to test chemicals and medicines, as well as to study how animal and human bodies function (in health and illness) (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals par 1-5). Scientists justify their actions by stating that this is the only way for them to achieve their scientific goals, which means that any form of distress or pain caused to the animals is overshadowed by the potential benefits of such experiments. Animal testing is unethical and unacceptable because it causes pain and suffering to animals, its benefits to humans are not established, and any potential benefits to humans could be achieved in other ways.
Animal experimentation is unacceptable because it causes untold suffering to the animals involved. The justification for animal experiments is it would end up producing such great benefits for the human race that the harm of a few animals should be deemed morally
