through pain when there is no need. People who are for animal testing believe that injecting them with the viruses and testing them with treatments ensures safety for humans. Animal testing is unreliable, drugs that seem to be not harmful to animals could work completely different on animals.
Dangerous outcomes come from animal testing. Medications that are lethal or harmful to humans could be found safe in animals. An example is the drug Vioxx, it was found safe on five different species but caused 320,000 human strokes and 140,00 human deaths. An additional case was the testing of a treatment (TGN1412) at Northwick Park Hospital in 2006, where human volunteers suffered to an allergic reaction and almost died. The treatment was tested on monkeys 500 times and did not result in any dangerous side effects to them. Furthermore, testing on animals most of the time is unreliable for human health. There have been multiple incidents when drugs have failed on humans and have positive results for animals. The anatomy of animals has many differences from humans that could entirely change how they absorb the drugs. It is not at all surprising that treatments that work on animals don’t work on humans. You can simply not just compare a rat or a monkey to a human. It sounds insane that people rely on animals to find cures. Animals could be resistant to things that humans aren’t to or vice versa, which would greatly affect the absorption of the drugs. For example, a species of monkeys is resistant to acetaminophen which is deadly on humans. While on the other hand, simple foods like chocolate, grapes, and nuts are toxic to dogs. So, knowing this, I see no reason in why we still study diseases on animals. About 95% of drugs fail on humans despite of the fact that it works on animals. Studies have shown, 93% of dangerous side effects from medication, 19% could have been found in animal tests. Additionally, testing on rats is only accurate 43% of the time.
We people are so narcissistic towards how we see and treat animals.
It is so unfair to put them through pain when they can’t even speak for themselves. People use them for their own selfish reasons and that need to end. Animal testing is abusive. Animal testing is animal cruelty. We are harming multiple species such as dogs, mice, rats, monkeys, and bunnies these animals will soon become extinct if this issue keeps continuing. They are forced to inhale chemicals, animals are injected with harsh compounds, and they are being killed. Animals are being blinded, injured, burned, deafened and infected with lethal diseases. It is unjust how people treat animals, they have feelings just as much as humans do. About a 115 million of animals are being tested on and one million of those animals are being killed every
year.
The solutions to animal testing include cell cultures, human tissues, and computer models. Cell cultures are cells that are grown in laboratories and are used to study the disease processes and drug metabolism. Scientists create any kind of animal or human cell and make them and make them in to 3D mini human organs which is a much more realistic way to study tests. Human tissues are being tested by companies for their cosmetics and substances. These donated healthy and diseased tissues are being used to replace the cruel rabbit tests. Computer models are used to replicate the human body and perform virtual experiments. These alternatives are much better beneficial research tools than animal testing. These solutions would minimize animal suffering, animal cruelty and the million deaths on animals that occur every year. Hopefully these alternatives can completely end animal testing one day.
