Jackson State University Personal Goals

. I even went to after hour tutoring sessions to try to get better grades in class to pull up my GPA. Although I did not earn the GPA that was required for your MPH Program, I do not think that should stop me from furthering my education. I now realize what I have to do in order to become a successful graduate student. I will pay more attention in class, ask the professor questions if I do not understand an assignment and study every chance I get.
I have faced many challenges throughout my life. Some of those challenges made me who I am today while others caused me to want more out of life.My personal goal is to pursue a Master’s Degree in public health with a concentration in epidemiology before the age of 27. It is very important for me to accomplish this goal because becoming successful has always been a concern for my
family, who always told me in order to succeed in life I must get an education. I believe that motivation and determination are the keys to a successful career. I consider myself to be a highly motivated and determined young woman. Being the oldest of three children, with a single mother and grandmother of modest means, financial constraints were evident to me from a young age. My mother and grandmother instilled in me the value of strong work ethic and responsibilities that one needs to incur to facilitate their goals, motivations, and dreams. As a result when I have a goal to reach, I dedicate myself to getting the task done. This extends to my aspiration to become an epidemiologist. Having done my undergraduate studies at a historically black college in Mississippi, I would consider it my privilege to be able to pursue my graduate studies at your HBCU where my mind will be challenged and my life will be changed.I am very excited to apply to Jackson State University.
