What makes a great leader, a leader? It is the way one inspires, and makes a difference in our world. A head figure always has the three common skills that are fundamental to being a true leader: dedication, confidence and diligence. Based on what I have gathered from past leaders; it is key to not only learn these skills but apply them effectively to one’s life. These successful leaders have inspired and given me the determination to grow my knowledge on becoming a great leader. Engaging in leadership requires dedication. To have true devotion one must have, not only a deep respect for, but personal involvement in what they are doing. The historical leader Martin Luther King Jr. showed his commitment by not giving up on his strong beliefs of equal rights. He got involved and stood up against the harsh racism present in America at the time; making protest and expressing his thoughts through effective ways other than violence. He inspired people to do the right thing and never give up his true beliefs. Although I have not completely mastered this leadership skill in all areas of my life, by keeping myself motivated and not giving up, true self devotion in all I do is soon to follow. Being a true leader also requires confidence. To have confidence one must be fearful yet truthful in whatever they are doing. For example, the famous Marie Curie was very courageous to work in a field not common for a young girls to be a scientist. She worked hard and was afraid of nothing that came her way. Because of her confidence and strong faith in herself, she became a leader for all females wanting to do something out of the social norm. She was a woman that was stronger than what the men thought she was and led the way for other women to follow in her shoes. With people’s leadership help I will be able to grow and understand what it really means to be confident not only in myself but in my actions too.
