I sit in bed some nights thinking, I should be getting to work, looking at the clock, and afterwards forcing myself to go to sleep so I do not fall asleep in school the next day. It’s difficult, frustrating, even infuriating at times, but I can never keep myself away, the idea of being able to help others with a few clicks of a button and potentially lead them down a path of success is immensely satisfying. Along with personal reasons to get involved with my online community, it's also something that brings me out of my shell. Though some may argue that spending a large amount of time on the internet diminishes my social activity in real life I’d have to disagree. My friends and I love to share and try and create all of our potential ideas as a way to expand our knowledge and to draw others into our friend group. Programming as a team enhances our friendships and gives us common goals and topics to talk about and focus on. My leadership in the world of computer science gives allows me to tap into a large variety of knowledge granted to me by those who trust and work with me

Part of leadership is the ability to make a difference under difficult circumstances. But, what is a leader? A leader is a person or thing that holds a dominant or superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others. I portray the qualities that a leader has: persistance, determination, confidence, and passion. This past summer my gymnastics career went to the next level; I was offered a job at the gymnasium.…

Leadership for me is very hard to define. Gregory Moore states, “We don’t really know what leadership means, in part because it never means quite the same thing twice.” (Hamm, 2011 p. ix) I believe that everyone has their own style and views on leadership. Everyone is unique in being the leader that they are or want to become.…

My personal philosophy of leadership is always putting your maximum effort in everything you do, going the extra mile, being honest, and always trying to bring the best out of people. Two theories from the text that resonate with me and inform my philosophy are the servant leadership theory and the transforming leadership theory. As mentioned before, I think I am a servant leader because my primary goals is to serve and help others. In other words, the reason I like being an E-Board member in my clubs is so that I can use my voice to make a difference in my community and help individuals to my best ability. I try to put others first and their needs so that they can be the best leaders they can be as well.…

My dad has been probably the biggest single influence of leadership instruction and mentoring in my life. Since my childhood, my dad has taught, and continues to teach, me what leadership means to him. He taught that I should not follow the crowd, but instead I was to positively influence people to lead them in doing good and taking care of those who were not able to care for themselves. His lesson was simple: “we exist in life to smooth the path for others”. Another aspect of his leadership philosophy is that we should lead formally when called upon to do so, but we also need to lead informally in the different roles we find ourselves.…
