cruelly, harmfully, and/or be used to determine whether or not a a certain medicine is safe or not. To begin, although a numerous amount of people side with animal testing, it is not the best way because through the process the scientists are cruel to those poor animals which is inhumane. According to a website named ProCon.org they talk about animal testing and it explains that… “ according to Humane Society International animals are commonly subjected to force feeding, or food and water deprivation, etc.”. A second website named Udemy.com speaks about cons with animal testing and states that… “ unfortunately for many animals, the Animal Welfare Act does not protect them.”. These quotes are showing that scientist captivise animals that are not apart of the Animal Welfare Act and are abusing animals to do test on them which is cruel and inhumane. Animals are being captivated and restrained from eating anything unless they are forced to. In my opinion animal testing is not the best option when we have the technology to test in different ways. Some people might say that there are many tests that improve animal testing rather than to harm them. Though most test do improve animals health, they are still being harmed through the process and are being tested for unknown results, better or worse. Many animals have died due to these tests and some have been mislead. All in all, the process of animal testing is cruel, harmful, and inhumane, in which these test hurt animals. Secondly, even though most breakthroughs are because of animal testing, not all testings turn out accurate because humans and animals aren’t exactly similar.
On the website ProCon.org they state that… “ The anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor test subjects for humans.”. On the second website Udemy.com it talks about how… “ Since animals have different organisms than humans, they may not react in a reliable, consistent manner to a drug intended for human use.”. This means that animals “made” differently than humans, therefore, they are not perfect for testing because there could be major errors in the test. Animals do not react the same way as humans do, so they testing process could return inaccurate. In my opinion, if the tests do not turn out 100%, they should not be tested because there could be different outcomes. Although, if it was not for animals testing, most of the medicines that we use today could still be considered unsure and people could have died. Yes, many of these testings have caused breakthroughs in medicine, but a lot of testings are taking risks because since humans and animals are different the medicine could turn out differently on each species. Many medicines such as Aspirin could have a dangerous effect on animals, but yet it has no effect on humans. Overall, animal testings are/could be inaccurate for humans which can cause some serious issues/errors in
medicine. Lastly, just because animals do not have any feedback thats does not mean they do not feel or suffer. On ProCon.org a quote is published by an English Philosopher named Jeremy Bentham, He wrote… “ The real question is not, can the reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?”. Another quote from the same website states that… “ Some chemicals that are ineffective on, or harmful to, animals proves valuable when used by humans.”. These quotes have a strong meaning because even though animals do not speak, they can feel what is happening to them and it is just heartbreaking. Even though animals do not talk they can still hurt, feel, and ache just as humans can. This ties in with claim number one because it relates on how animal testing is inhumane. As we know animals do not have rights, therefore, it is acceptable to test on them. There is an act that protects animals named the Animal Welfare Act, but unfortunately this act does not protect all animals. Although animals do not have rights they can still struggle and suffer which is cruel and inhumane. Many of these animals are being harmed and mistreated because they do not have rights, but we do not really know what the animals are feeling or thinking. To conclude, not knowing if animals do not suffer or do not have rights does not allow someone to harm them in anyway. In conclusion, I strongly believe that animal testing should be restricted because animal testing is cruel and inhumane, we have better technology to test in different ways, and tests could turn out inaccurate. Many people do agree with animal testing because these testings improve animal health, and have caused breakthroughs with medicines. What those people do not look at is, they do not realize that in the process animals are being mistreated, captivated, and harmed. Many of these reasons compel me to believe that animal testing should be the last option to resort to now, knowing that we have better technology to improve health. So my question is, should we still be testing on animals when we have better technology, it may or may not be inaccurate, and/or knowing that in the process of animal testing animals are being harmed?
