The Center for disease Control reports that cigarette smoke causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is about one in five deaths. The center adds that smoking causes more deaths every year than Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, and firearm- related incidents. With this being a known fact there are still smokers in today’s world. The question that should be asked is why do people smoke cigarettes despite their proven dangers? Smoking cannot only damage or bring harm to every organ in the human body, but it can cause countless diseases. assive smoke is when non-smokers are breathing in the smoke that a smoker is smoking. Passive smoking is not good, because non-smokers breathe it in, as well as the smoker, and it is very harmful for the non-smokers as well as the smoker. It is also a huge source of indoor air pollution. Four-fifths of the smoke that builds up in a room with a smoker is the more harmful "sidestream" type. Tobacco smoke has over 4,000 chemical compounds, which includes 40 carcinogenic agents that are cancer-causing. Tobacco smoke also has carbon monoxide, which is a poisonous gas, that inhibits the transportation of someone's oxygen to their body's vital organs via the blood. “Life is too short” and “ you only live once” are phrases you always hear from your parents, grandparents and other people whenever they come up with those boring ‘in my day’ stories, aren’t they? So why waste the one life you get, and shorten the already too short with the expensive, pointless and revolting habit of smoking? Smoking is the habit that I consider to be pointless, a waste of money and dangerous to your health and social life. Smoking really is the one thing I loathe and with it causing a staggering 110,000 unnecessary premature deaths a year I strongly believe it should be banished to room 101 eternally.…

"Jesse, slow down!" and "Um, why is TJ's phone still in your car, Jesse?" are some of the many phrases I heard all weekend long. Many late night car rides occurred during my weekend, but this one in particular was by far the most memorable. While riding through the back roads of Nettleton, Mississippi, out of boredom, Jesse and I had to pick up TJ, her boyfriend, from seeing his grandmother in the hospital. Before I get into anymore details, I should probably go into informing you how bad of a driver Jesse is. She defiantly had a need for speed and is constantly trying to arrive at her destination as soon as she can. Since I have informed you about her lead foot and her inpatient driving skills, I'll get back to describing my weekend. Driving…

When we think of illegal drugs we think of cocaine, ecstasy, LSD, PCP, and even Mushrooms. What we don’t really think of is Marijuana. Now sure most of us know that kids smoke it all the time just for fun and doctors are now prescribing it to patients but it never really hits us that it’s illegal. We also know that most drugs really hurt our bodies and minds and that’s why they are illegal. This specific drug is said to be “not as harmful to us” and its “better than cigarettes” but it is causing death and war. So now some people have decided that in order to stop the war, we should make Marijuana legal. Obviously there are many sides to this opinion but I think that Marijuana should remain illegal in the United…

As a police officer who proudly serves Australia, the amount of times I have been called up to sort out parties and other youth conducted activities is ridiculous. Each week I go to the problems only to find wasted teens, unknowingly throwing their lives away. It needs to stop. My least favourite thing about my job is calling up the parents of these out of control teens only to hear that the parents barely care about what their children are doing. This needs to change. Just last Saturday I was called up to an out of control party and four teens were arrested their parents couldn’t care less.…
