Why School Should Start Later
Imagine if your school started before dawn. Well, students are waking up and walking to school before the sun comes up, because they really need to. They are doing that just to catch the bus on time to not be late. Starting school later would benefit the students health. Waking up so early is bad for the students. The recommended time for sleep among teenagers is about 8 hours a night. They are getting a lot less than that. Kids need a lot more sleep than what they are given currently. That leads into schools helping students if it gets pushed back. If the teens get more sleep, they will be healthier than they are currently. Today, students fill up on caffeinated drinks just to stay awake. These drinks are also bad for health. If school …show more content…
In Great Britain, an academy called UCL used to start early. Now, it starts at 10:00 and it ends at 5:30. Students were “showing up and ready to learn” and “focused and engaged in lessons” according to the headmistress of the school. If other schools did the same, even by thirty minutes, students would pay more attention in class. Students would also be more happy because they are not as tired in the morning. The education quality would also go up. Teachers would benefit off of this change too. They would have more time to prepare lessons and think about them. The teachers would also be getting up slightly later. They would still be getting up early though. The teachers would also be happier if they wake up early. Everybody would enjoy there day more if they woke up early. You could say that it would be more expensive to stay open later. They say this because the after school clubs would still be going. But if you are really that worried, then just don’t have them. You don’t need the after school clubs, you could just do them another time. Most schools think that they need the clubs, but they really don’t. If they really want them still, they could just have them during
