The latest leadership activity that I did was the Close Up program that the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council, which I am a part of, brought me to. It is based in Washington D.C. but was held in Hawaii to focus on the Asia-Pacific area on foreign policy. When I chose the college, I already had my major in mind and because their civil engineering program is one of the best, it became set that I am going to UAF. Math is an easy subject for me and when talking with my math teacher, he suggested majors that is would be a good fit for me. After asking what civil engineering was, it was very interesting to me. I have been accepted to UAF to study civil engineering.
Upon coming back home, after earning my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, I want to work as a civil engineer and help my community with all our environmental issues, since climate change is hitting us very badly. I also want to make Barrow a better place to live, since here is what I call home and want to live here most of my life. I also want to help other rural communities near Barrow, on the North Slope. With all that has been happening lately from climate change, my major can help greatly. I look forward to helping my community in the
