Public Service Personal Statement
Being able to empathize with others more effectively and reaching out to affect other people's lives for the better has taught me the importance of public service. It has helped me to be a more valuable asset at work, pushed me to conquer academic goals, better equipped me to care for my family and broadened my competence in every field. Public service will continue to serve as a valuable source of knowledge, build my pride in my community, establish networks and helpful connections and further build my character and skills in helping others. Throughout my life my family and I had to persevere. my father worked seventy hours per week just to keep our family afloat while my two brothers and I watched over each other. My father did everything …show more content…
I very much enjoyed volunteering for this organization because it built my character and competence as well. I have also been involved in Drama Club and working on every single set production since tenth grade. I loved the sense of teamwork, it has taught me the value of participating in something greater than myself. I also was a leader intern for Camp Invention, which inspires future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create. Through this experience I got to perform a lot of one on one work with children to expand their confidence and creativity. I loved volunteering for this program because it improved my patience tremendously, as well as my attention to detail and it helped broadened my leadership abilities. Through my junior and senior year I also was a lab assistant for several teachers. I loved this position because it framed independence, work ethic and time management for me. Public service has allowed me to vent, instead of breaking down or giving up and I channeled the hardship in my life into helping others. Public service has helped me in school, bettering …show more content…
This feeling is empathy. It is being a humanitarian, caring and it is the basis of why we do things for others. If you should have anything in this world it is that, public service allows individuals to give, not for themselves but because the community needs it. Helping others unconsciously inspires others to do the same. That is the beauty of public service. That is also why I want to be a component of change rather than a bystander. Personally I have learned a lot from my services to others but it is nowhere near enough. Public service will be a valuable source of knowledge from anyone or any organization I assist and anywhere I go I can still reach out and help. Not only that but wherever I go and whoever I help I can always establish a sense of pride in the work I will be doing for my community. Even at Norwich University, during my studies I intend to help the community that is willing to give me so much because it is also showing your appreciation and respect. While attending Norwich University I want to explore and involve myself in as many clubs as I can, I want to serve the community and the people within it in the hopes of giving back. Professionally serving my community, no matter where it is will provide me in useful network connections and will better establish a humane connection between my the people in the community and me. Serving my community builds pride inside me,

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

Helping my community opened up a new side of me and showed me that helping out the people around me was something I enjoyed doing. I’ve volunteered at Rancho Elementary multiple times and will continue to do so over every chance I get as it makes me happy to help my community and see other people having fun. I was also a part of the Scripps Spelling Bee in 6th grade and after many days of hard work and effort, I placed 1st in the school and proceeded to place 2nd in all of…

It provides me with a great school, and a beneficial work experience. I have learned the ups and downs of working part time, and attending school full time. My dream to become a doctor is not my dream, but the dream of my entire community. The necessity of me giving back to my community is utmost important, which is why I am a strong advocate for community service. Having done over 350 hours of service, I have learned from professional doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital events, and passed on my knowledge as a mentor and tutor to the struggling students at my school. I also take charge in school events, because being a leader is what allows a person to adapt and help others more efficiently. I am the President of the California Scholarship Federation, and have been the Vice-President of the school’s biggest community service club, Pacific Club. The ability to help people and provide for my community is an opportunity that I cannot pass…

I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…

Volunteering has always been an important aspect of my life. Whether donating food or painting a house, it has allowed me to be extremely grateful and humble for my lifestyle because everybody is not as blessed as I am. Volunteering has taught me that even the smallest gift, such as a smile, can be a great gift to someone because it can show that you care and want to be involved. It has allowed me to develop soft skills, and learn more about myself and my HBCU community. One of my greatest accomplishment in life was that I volunteered 1,000 hours in high school.…

The third program I helped with was a soccer tournament that my fellow Bhutanese immigrants organized between teams from other states. As I volunteered there, I helped prepare food for the players, I picked up the trash, and I gave water to the players after the game. The purpose of the soccer tournament was to have fun and enjoy playing sports. I would like to join a soccer team when I go to high school. In the future, I would like to volunteer in a program that helps people who are facing cancer.…

When I was younger, I participated in Girl Scouts where we volunteered in food pantries, senior centers, hospitals, animal shelters and charities for the less fortunate. We also participated in service projects such as making cards for veterans, making blankets for hospitals and the homeless, and made care packages for veterans and the hurricane victims. Volunteering is important to me because I had an aunt that unfortunately died of cancer and I feel that no one should have to go through the pain and suffering that she did.…

Volunteering as a summer camp counselor at two different camps has taught me the intangibles of real world life and has improved my leadership skills exponentially. I have volunteered for two summer camps, one being run by Toronto Parks and Recreation and the other being Toronto Empire Athletics. The experience I have obtained from being a camp counselor has helped me get a broader view of the world amongst many other life skills. As a camp counselor, I was required to deal with the diverse set of problems laid out to me on a daily basis and these obstacles have taught me skills that can not be learned through studying. For example, the patience and maturity required to teach and play with children with special needs are skills that are easily transferable to real life.…

Throughout my high school career, I have been given numerous opportunities to lead other students by example, work ethic, volunteerism, and school involvement. I believe that my greatest impact as a leader in high school has been through my participation in a Service Learning Class. This class gave me the chance to help and lead others by tutoring younger students in the middle school and elementary school. As a senior, I felt responsible for providing a voice for the class in ideas and decisions to help better our school. I worked with administrators, teachers, and class members to promote healthy habits of responsibility, school pride, respect, and service.…
